I've watched videos of people etching blades in FC and they apply nail polish to the areas they do not want etched. Is this a good method? If not what is. I am some what of an decent painter and I wanted to try and etch a scene on one of my blades. So if the nail polish isn't the ideal method to use what would be ideal? thanks for all the replys

Using the cheap nail clear coat works well, it's very thin so you could 'paint' it how ever you wanted. I didn't have much bleed under clear coat when I used it as a resistor. I did it for like an hour and it looked really cool. When you heat treat it gets scale in all the low spots and looks really rustic.

To paint a "scene", or logo:
clean the blade very well.
Use a small tip brush and model air plane paint the raised pattern you want. Make sure you paint it thick enough.
let dry overnight.
Carefully clean off the blade, making sure you don't damage the logo
The etch should be taken a bit deeper than normal to allow for sanding and brightening of the logo.

David Boye's book on Knifemaking has a lot of info on doing art scenes this way.
