what do you use for etching cable Damascus ?

I just got a little bit of cable and welded it up today in my new gas forge
and will see if it is good and then I might get a roll of it with 50meters :D

the sparks say it is high carbon they look just like a piece of 1080 I had

DC

I use 50% FeCl (from radio shack) diluted 50% with 5% acid white vinegar. Then I etch for 15, take the cable damascus out and scrub the black oxide off with fine steel wool then put it back in for another 15, scrub, 15, scrub and 15, and usually after an hour I'm about where I want to be with my cable damascus for good relief

If FeCl (ferric chloride, circuit board etching solution) is not available, apple cider vinegar works well. Just takes a bit longer.
