Etching damasteel with Hydrochloric acid and coffee?

Now I will ask a question regarding the heat treat since it came up here. What could be improved if the vacuum heat treat resulted in 57HRC for the damasteel instead of the desired 60-61HRC?
The heat treat was supposedly done with the recipe for damasteel that I got from Stacy, the only difference was that the snap temper and cryo was skipped.

" .... the only difference was that the snap temper and cryo was skipped. ..."

Well, .... there it is.

I'm afraid the heat treat place I used doesn't offer cryo unfortunately.

Therefore I would like to ask what heat treat recipes have been used to achieve 60HRC without cryo, for damasteel?

Also, is the snap temper necessary when using vacuum heat treatment?

The snap temper is to prepare the blade for cryo with less stress. If cryo was not done, there would be no need for a snap temper.
Many people don't do a snap temper before cryo at all unless they have been having issues.

A proper temper ending in Rc 60 may hard to get on damasteel without cryo. I would say that 58-59 is all you can expect under that restriction.
If your HTer doesn't do cryo, it doesn't sound like he is set up to do high alloy and stainless steel HT. I would send your blades to nay of the folks who do knife blades regularly. They all do cryo as part of the HT ( which it is).
