Hi Guys,

sorry if this has been asked before.

I believe that Ferrite Chloride ( I think this is the correct name) is good for etching.
Where can a person acquire this please? I am in Canada.

Also, can the electrolite used with the Etch - O - Matic machine be used? I would think it is pretty much the same thing or not?

If I had any of the above then I wouldn't bother you guys with the question.

Thanks,

Mike

Ferric chloride can be found here in Canada at computer stores such as the source /radio shack. Electrolyte for an etcher will not work as it really does very little on its own, it's just the conductor for the electric current to etch.

Grayzer86, thank you for the info, it is much appreciated.

Try to keep warm out there.;)

White vinegar would work better than the electrolyte, but ferric chloride is probably that "Goldilocks" solution between vinegar and lemon juice and the REALLy powerful stuff like hydrochloric acid that you might use on stainless damascus and such. Keep an eye on wrought iron as the the slag inclusions will etch out pretty quickly, to the point that you could go back and do a little shading and polishing and you would still have the "holes"
