Hello folks. I have decided that it is time I start etching my mark into my knives. Are the etching stencils on Mcmaster-Carr any good? Also, how are they used? I know most stencils are made by selective light exposure and chemicals, but these seem to be different. Apologies if this has been asked before.

ETA- I am not talking about part number-2807T17. I'm talking about part number- 8597T56

I looked up the part number that you have there, I just searched for it. But I have never heard of anyone using McMaster-Carr for stencil parts, doesn't mean it has not happened though. I hear there is a learning curve when it comes to developing the stencils though.

I have hard of people using, IMG, TUS, and Ernie at http://www.erniesknives.com, which is where I have gotten my last stencils, to just have them make you a stencil set.

I made a home made etcher but would like to get the ability to change the settings to get a stronger deeper etch, so if I can't do that I would go with a personalized-plus etcher.

Do yourself a favor and contact www.img-electromark.com . Best stencils on the market.

Either build yourself a good etcher or buy a quality unit and use Img's #94 etchant.

You will not be disappointed..............

I've built a variable power AC/DC etcher already, and I have used salt water successfully to etch. I am working basically on the money I can make washing cars and mowing lawns. How much would I expect to pay for an IMG stencil?
