I have a knife that needs to be delivered by Wed of this week and I just went to etch my logo on it with a Ron Claiborne etching machine and my electrolyte bottle is completely empty. Does anyone know what I can use as a chemical to etch my logo on? I am using ATS34, but I don't even know what the electrolyte chemical even is that I have been using as it came with the machine when I bought it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

a pinch of salt in a tablespoon of water should work.

Try it on a piece of scrap first.

I used to use vinegar as well, but stopped when I got some discoloration on carbon steels. Maybe I was using too much.

I've found for stainless or carbon steels, a tablespoon or two of salt in a little less than a cup of warm water works just fine for my etching machine. I like to keep it simple.
