Etching stainless

Sorry about the question tried the search function and nothing came up, what happens when you use FC on 154 cm or stainless for that matter.

How could a guy put some patina on stainless, other than heat color from HT

Spenser, the etching effect of FC comes from the small bit of hydrochloric acid in the solution. If the FC doesn't work you can use muriatic acid (commercial hudrochloric acid) diluted with distilled water. (Make it pretty dilute. Try. Remove blade, mix in more acid in small shots until it etches.) You can also just spike your FC and that will work too.

Also, since 154CM and ATS34 are about the same chemically as Damasteel and RWL34, you can probably etch them with warm sulfuric acid (battery acid).
 
Hey thanks guys I will try it on chunk of scrap, I have ground out a large khukuri and would like to "age it".
