image.jpg this is my bk10 , as it arrived from the states . How did it get through quality control ? I think ka bar oimage.jpgowes me a set of handle scales , completely free.

You likely won't get a response from Ethan until next week. He has a gathering going on at his place right now. Your best bet would be to contact Kabar.

and what exactly is wrong with the scales?
they look fine in the pictures.

looks like a gap on the right side of the pic!? that is kinds odd I would if you haven't already take them off lay them on a flat surface too be sure its the grip and not something worse.

I have a pair of grivory handles...message me your adress and i ll send them to you as soon as monday.sure ethan has other things to deal with mate.cheers.

I can't see a defect in the pics. Someone else said there was a gap noted by you, so my first bit of advice would be take the scales off. Take them off and make sure it's not something stupid like a piece of debris that could be causing the gap, the handle is squared up and not twisted itself, check that the back of the scales are flat, etc.

looks like a shadow. the whole right side of the blade is in shadow.

Nope, not going through big expenses of returning knives and paying shipping to the states.

I'm not familiar with the Kabar's international shipping and return policies, but sending them an email and explaining the problem might really turn out to be the easiest and quickest way. They might ship you a new set based on the pictures without requiring you to send the ones you have back. Granted, they might not, but they just might. Also, like tfields suggests it would be worth the time to take off the scales and make sure they are the problem - which you could also verify with a picture. It would stink to go to the effort of contacting them and have them send a new set only to find out it was something else.

It looks like a gap Ausse, take them off and put them back on, it should fix the problem.
Make sure ALL screws are tightened properly and not too much on one side.
If you need a new set of handles let me know, I have 2 sets of grivory laying around since I got the wood ones yesterday for my BK2.

Ethan does not manufacture these knives; KaBar does. If you feel that you've got a warranty claim I'd go through KB rather than calling out Ethan personally with a thread in this forum. Just my opinion, mind.

I don't understand the problem. If there is indeed a small gap... what's the big deal?

The tang is fully coated. It's not going to corrode if moisture gets on it.

If the issue is that the scales are not perfectly flush with the tang... again, what's the big deal?

If it's somehow so out-of-whack that the knife is uncomfortable to use, contact Ka-Bar.

There's a reason why Becker knives are so affordable, yet so reliable... they use very good materials and modern manufacturing methods to keep costs under control. They are not 100% handmade customs.

These knives are mass-produced and have mass-produced scales bolted to them. The way the bolts are configured, it's a very simple matter to snug them up a bit with an Allen wrench.

They are low cost beater knives, not high end production or custom knives. Wait until you take the coating off and see whats hiding under there. :)

Yeah the pictures aren't great to see what's up with this. It looks like the scales are warped or misshapen?

They probably over tightened the screw and it sunk the center and pulled the edge up. Nothing that can be fixed with a counter clockwise turn of the screw. :)

It looks like there is a gap under one side.. perfect time to make some wood scales or in my opinion get some micarta and liners. It is unbelievable how nice the knife becomes with micarta.

Either way, if you want new grivory, Ka Bar is the place to start...
