Ethan asked me to pass along that the ice storm has temporarily put him out of the internet business. He is camping out in his house, cooking in the fireplace and generally having a good time playing "Big house on the prairie". All is well, and we can expect him back on the forum ASAP.

I remember the ice storm of '77, I believe it was. We were out of power for 10 days. I thought it was the greatest thing ever, haha. Kerosene heaters, cooking on the propane stove, etc. My dad, who was a lineman, hated it though. He was putting in mega hours.

I guess there are a hell of a lot of people without power across TN and KY. Good luck and hope they get that fixed quickly with the cold temps coming.

I hear that. That cold stuff is heading our way as well. -6° tomorrow night.

friends of mine that keep track for solar PV reasons tell me that my area has not been above freezing since xmas, nor more than 10 days of clear sky

many below zero nights. 4-5 feet of snow, just sitting on the ground. more if you don't count the pack. boston claims 9 feet.

it's that time of year :D

Yep, lost power last night at 9 pm, came back on at 1 am. For some people it's been 12 hours or more.

I believe Ethan lives by Cherokee National forest, I'd imagine it takes longer to get power back on when you're out away from civilization like that.

the house on the hill is a smoking crater and E got a new puppy?
life is good!

Work was called off last night 😀. First time in almost 15 years. My power never went out, though. I'm about 1.75 hrs northeast of E. It gets a lot worse where he's at.

I expect that Ethan is better qualified to "rough it" than most folks. Hope the power etc is back :foot:n soon.

Get the sense that Ethan is just fine though perhaps inconvenienced. If anyone could adapt and accept - it would certainly be him. Ethan, when you do get a chance to read this thread, you should then know that we were thinking of you.

If I could get the plane out of the hangar, I would put about 190 on the DG and head to Key Largo, with a quick fuel/pax stop in TN if he so desired.:D

If you're going to be stuck somewhere for a few days, Ethan's is a dang good place to be :)

Glad to hear everyone is doing alright and there wasn't any serious storm damage.
Hmm 'Big House on the Prairie'. I think I missed that series.

Talked to E tonight. He's safe and warm. Lot of pine trees down in his neck of the woods though.

Hey Everybody......

First I would like to thank you all for the kind words......... After the phone went out for a while yesterday as well as the power having been out for too long I decided to take refuge at Brother Crenshaw's........... So I loaded up Elliot ( Da Moose's great Lab puppy ) drained the water system and headed for warmer space..... Also 110 for the blessed CPAP........... There are, according to the co-ops web site, five crews working my neighborhood...... When I went out day before yesterday there were about twenty trees down on the road in the three miles to the bridge and another eighty or ninety before I hit Sloan's wonderful merchantile emporium..... Almost all pines........ The county crews had yet to be out but the Citico Beach Volunteer Fire Department and land owners had cleared a twisted path...... I only had to cut and clear one largish pine.....
It really is nice to see everybody pulling together........ I live on an electric spur with only five full time customers so am on the bottom of the list........ As of this morning the co-op still has six thousand customers without juice so I suspect that I will be at the Camp Crenshaw Refugee Camp till the weekend....

I am damned lucky to have good friends and a place that is warm, dry and has juice and internet..... I really missed the internet....... Knowing what is going on helps a lot.......

Hope all is well with you.......

E
