Challenge Completed!!!
First Installment - Figure 4 Deadfall
Thought I'd go ahead and do a quick Figure 4 at home.
I went sort of big on this one because of the game I was after: the infamous Russell Stover bear.
Yeah, I know... pretty scary.
All bears are voracious eaters, of course, but most experienced trappers know that chocolate is the best bait for the Russell Stover variety.
Here's my Figure 4 all baited up and ready to go. The BK2 shown and a baton log (used for the notching) were the only tools used to make this trap.
I used a Mini Snickers to up my chances of attracting a Russell Stover bear, and it worked!
Here's a video clip of the trap being deployed by a bear. Pay close attention because the action is fast and furious.

Second Installment - Paiute Deadfall
Okay, here's some Paiute deadfall action.
This one was also crafted with the BK2 and a baton log.
At dusk, I set up the trap and surprise, surprise, ANOTHER Russell Stover bear was drawn in by some peanut butter on the trigger.
Here's my video capture of that event.
It's a little hard to see in the low light, but this bear was trying to be smart and sneak up to the trigger on its back.

Later, my son and I decided to set up the Paiute deadfall on the patio.
Before we knew it, a larger bear, cousin to the Russell Stover no doubt, lumbered in and then tried the same back wriggling trick.
No dice though. The trap nailed him.
Must've been painful. You can hear his death groan right there at the end. Bear steaks for dinner!

Third Installment - L7 Spring Trap
I should be able to get this one in before the deadline. Did a little carving last night while I was watching TV. All I need to do now is set it up and test/video it.
Two days later...
Okay, we got a snow dump last night, but I still got out this morning and completed the challenge.
Using my L7 pieces, I set up the trap on a well established trail. Here's a view from above...
And a couple of views from ground level...
We've had a lot of Build-a-Bear polar bear action in the neighborhood, and I was hoping to catch one of these impressive beasts.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before a bear lumbered through, and I caught some video of the action.

Because it took some stubborn tugging by the bear to spring the trap on the first go, I decided to set it up with a lighter action.
I simply engaged the L7 more on the corner/edge of the mechanism and waited.
As you can see, the next bear that came along sprang the trap a lot more easily.

Here was the reward: a couple of bears for dinner. Yum.
