Ethan's July Challenge

congrats guys! Man I never expected someone to lay on a pire for a knife hahahaha

No love for the bar? :D im just kidding of course. I didn't think it would count anyways. Fun challenge. Now im off to the woods!

I would really like you guys to share how long it took to build.... from gather to tail on.....Could be helpful.....Add please your self described skill level please.........

Wow thanks! I had a lot of fun doing this!

It took me about 3 hours or so to do all the work shown. I would describe my wilderness skill level to be in the above average range.

Thanks Ethan!! I had fun building that chair.

I didn't have any experience building things like that before this contest. I think it might have taken me a few hours to make. Alder grows like crazy on the river, so it didn't take long to gather all the materials.

Congrats all! We spent the better part of 4 hours from the start of processing the wood to finished two person "bench" The trotline is what I had in my pack just for projects like this and it took most of a 250ft roll. I will replace this with a different style that isn't so slick to make the knots easier. Was great fun... on to the next, thanks for the contest!

My seat took a lot longer than It should have because 1) I'm not naturally good at making things and coming up with ideas on what to do. I ended end using Bushman5's seat top (from the esee forum) 2) I had originally wanted legs like his but he used bailing wire to put it all together and I didn't have that option for this contest. I couldn't get the legs to work. I probably spent 8 or 10 hours on it but like I said I'm no craftsman and that includes gathering sap and all the wood along with temper tantrums for things not going like I wanted them to. I learned a lot about about using pitch resin to glue things together.

Here's the raw pitch scraped off a tree outside a local target store. cool knife.

I'll say a few things about the pitch. It has to be strained to take out the impurities, I used cheese cloth. It turns into a really good glue when all the junk is strained out. It does soften up on a hot day or when you sit on it though. so it was a bad idea to slather it all over the top of the seat like I did. I didn't use it on the second seat I made.

All Best.....

ethan

It took about 5 hours, including failed designs. Im experienced with basic wood working, carving etc, but not with making camp furniture. I didn't use a book or instruction to make the camp furniture, just kinda went with it and got that.

Thankyou Ethan.
MWTIC great chair.
Good job everyone.
It took me and my son about 5-6 hours from start to finish on two seperate days.
My skill level is basic.
Ive never tried that before, learned alot, had fun.

Congratulations guys! All of you did a great job. But if I'd have had the time to finish my cooking table I'd have schooled y'all fo' sho!
