Ethan's Spring Gathering - What to bring - activities??

I have the time off, or at least, I won't be at work on Friday night.

I'll have to be in for work on sunday night, so, I'll need to be home Sunday around 3pm to get enough sleep to cover me.

So far,

Primitive Fire starting- We will cover the flint and steel, bow drill kit, and ferro/firesteel. Focus will be on material and technique. I'll handle this one.

Shelter- we have a few resources around, I'll take a volunteer to run the shelter primer.....

First aid/Trauma- Doc gave us the run down last year, looks like tfields will handle it this year, if not, I can do it in a pinch, but I'd rather have someone with a medical background.

BFC Custom Maker contest- each knife will be assigned a number, I will do my best to not allow anyone to know who made the blade. You will use said numerically nomered knife in a variety of tasks, assigning a 1-10 value to the task at hand, and and overall score for the knife, of 1-10.

At the end the, the final score will tell our victor.

Will the same knife be used by multiple people to allow for differences in technique and experience? Also, you can randomize it all you want, if I don't get to use the Rick Marchand knife I will throw the biggest tantrum ever. Don't worry though, I will be able to pick it out of a lineup. ;)

I can help with the shelter thing, but it would be best to have someone with more experience running that particular show. I can teach knots if anyone wants in on that. We didn't get around to that last time.

Yeah, everyone will use them all I hope.

Rick makes a knife thats hard to ignore. French-Canadians.......what can you do........

Knot work would be teh awesomeness.........

Gotta say that this gathering sounds like a great learning opportunity. Christine and I are very excited about some of the "classes".

Knifemaker's challenge sounds AWESOME!

Since i'm still unable to produce a figure 8 on the bight when needed, i'll definitely need some help in the knots area (thanks, D).

Let's see. The rabbit come out of the hole, goes around the tree... Oh, wait! That's a bowline. Never mind!

I can help with knots or medical stuff if need be.

Oh and alcohol removal.
Same here figure 8 on a bight is pretty much an overhand with another loop around the top. or if you can do a figure 8 just run the trailing end back through the 8.

I agree! We have a lot of folks from different walks of life and shockingly most have useful skills. We just gotta harness that amidst the debauchery.

Two words that go hand in hand with any Beckerhead "Harness & Debauchery" HAHAHA

i also specialize in left over food removal so dont be afraid too ask!! it's the least i can do lol!!

I will gladly work with anybody who wants to on the firesteel and tinder selection . Hopefully we can work on making tinder as well , simulating wet conditions .
