Ethical Question

So how come makers of truely unique designs do copyright or patent. Take Hibbens for example he makes some very risky(marketability) pieces but I dont know if he protects his creativty or not. Some pieces make it to prop depts. for use in movies. I dont really see hibben knock offs(decent ones, ive seen imports)Why is that is it fear, respect, or what...

Give credit where credit is due. It seems pretty simple to me. I can't see why people have such a problem with at least fessing up to influence.

When I first started all this, I was inspired by an article on Phil Hartsfield. Then I read about Engnath. And then I read about him again, cause I liked his insight. Then I started making knives and swords right away. I read about a whole bunch of makers after that. Some bothered me :) some really impressed me, like Howard Clark. Others, although not significant in any way, inspired all kinds of great ideas too numerous to keep track. Ron Clark has been profoundly helpful in answering so many basic questions I couldn't answer myself, being so previously isolated from the custom world. So, I guess where I give credit due, are to those guys that had profound influence first and then to the community of makers in general. Just acknowledge your inspirations I say. Give credit where credit is due.

Frontier,
I think one aspect that may play part in knife designs is that, they all look like knives. Knives are pretty basic tools. Its only gonna get harder to be original. My $.02.
