I have one knife by Gene Shadley, and it's one of my favorites. When I started getting into custom knife, his name was always at the top of the list and I just hadddd to have one. With his position with the guilde, he seemed like quite a popular and well respected maker. I'm sure he still is. But I feel like the only time I see one of his knives here is when I post the one I have. I can jump around on knife purveyor sites and see them, but I wanna see what my friends have (you know who you are).

Here is mine, and it is one, if not the best, 3 blade slipjoint I own. One that I will never get rid of even though I never use it.

Anyways, show me yours....

I have seen a few Shadley knives shown here before, and yours is exceptional for sure. From the photo it looks as fine as any I have seen. I wish I had one to add to this thread.

One of the things that I noted after my first Blade show a few years ago was as great as the traditional world is here at Bladeforums, there are but a few of the custom slipjoint makers that get represented here. Mr. Shadley is not the only maker whose knives we see occasionally here without ever hearing from the maker. I suspect after speaking to several makers at the Blade show in Atlanta that for whatever reason some makers have fallen out of favor here, or this forum has fallen out of their favor (if it was ever in their favor that is), either way they seem to know about this place but don't bother with it.

Anyone who like me has had there eyes opened to the custom knife world through this forum really should try to to make it to the Mecca of the knife world at least once. It's a big world out there.

I'm on his list for a couple, Campbell, but other than one I had to return (from an aftermarket deal) I've never owned one of his knives.

I've seen 'em at shows and know you are crazy about his fit and finish so I'm looking forward to the opportunity to judge for myself someday.

Nice stockman! You just had to do that to me, huh? :p

Elliot, I know stockmans are one of your least favorite patterns so I'm trying to warm you up to them ;)

Campbell, I appreciate all you do to help broaden my horizons. :p:thumbup:

Mine is a 3 3/16" Shadley Senator with red bone and ATS34 blades. I picked it up at Plaza Cutlery and could not put it down. It has not seen any pocket time since Mr. Hanlon hooked me up with a Tony Bose W/T, but it is a great little knife.

Campbell, your stockman appears to have half-stops. You don't see many Shadleys with half-stops. Mine does not have them.

Nice Stockman, Nastyman!
I can add one more Shadley, Campbell.
I have challenged several custom makers to make me a Punch Jack/Harness Jack, and Gene stepped up to the plate. Many have declined!
His approach to the punch was unusual, in that he machined it down from a much thicker piece of steel than you usually use in slipjoint making, achieving a pleasing sculptural shape. It is a smaller knife, about 3 1/4", kind of a Gent's sleeveboard.
It's a nice knife, good F&F, and the punch works very well!

I know what you mean about the elusive ideal harness jack

That stockman has something metaphysical about it - really apealling

Gene does make an excellent knife. His backspring fit is incredible. I have one knife of his where it is so clean that it is very hard to see where the spring edges stop and the liners start. It looks like one seamless piece of steel all the way across when you look at the knife from the back.

That is a beautiful and unique knife!

Here is one by Shadley. Terry Theis did the engraving and of course the sheath is by Paul Long.
This one is really hard to close. :D

What beauties! I am more than happy to take those poor knives that see no use and put them to work if anyone gets tired of them...

Picture of Gene and two nefarious individuals.

Gene looks like he was thinking "now here's trouble I don't need" when he saw us approaching! :p

He certainly has that "get me away from these two clowns" look on his face. :D.
