Since yesterday was my first foray over here in some time (under less than optimal circumstances) I thought I'd return to share something a little more upbeat.

Hoped some of you might enjoy seeing this new knife that landed on my doorstep today from Enrique Pena of Laredo, TX.

The knife is 3 5/8" closed, weighs 3 1/8 ounces and features a pinned shield, Enrique's jigged bone and CPM-154 blades.

More info about three other custom cattle knives I had built for me by some of the best makers in the business can be found in the following thread.

Your comments are welcome. (Yes, even yours, STeven. ;))

I like it Elliott...Enrique does beautiful work, and is very humble. Gifted maker, great teachers.

I haven't seen any of his 3 blade pieces in large stockman version, and I would like that. Do you have any?

While I know that he does a fine job of hand dying and jigging his scale material, my preference has always been for stag and pearl in slipjoints. Do you have a handle material preference?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Gimme a second and I'll rustle up a stockman for you that he did. All of my pieces from Enrique feature jigged bone. Oddly enough, I have none in stag from him and I no longer have any knives by any maker in pearl. As far as preference, I guess on traditional knives I like stag, bone, the occasional ebony (though I have a hard time wanting wood on my folding knives for some reason), and even some synthetics.

Stand by one and I'll be right back with a 4" stockman of his. (I don't own and don't know if he's done 4.25". The only custom stockman I have in that size is from Ken Erickson.)

That is a bombin' stockman....I gotta call Enrique.

those are some beautifully made/designed knives you have there, you lucky guy!

Tell him I sent ya, STeven, maybe he'll give me a buck off on the next project we already have planned! :p

Thank you, I appreciate it. Both the cattle knife and the stock pattern were based upon my own preferences and substituting for what ordinarily would be the spay blade.

Beautiful knives! I just love these custom "traditionals"!

Kind regards,

Jos

Well as long as we're sticking with Enrique's work (at the moment) I'll add a few more images for those who may find the work of interest...back momentarily.

Thanks for the kind words, guys...

That's all I've got (so far) of Enrique's work with one yet on the drawing board.

I'm VERY familiar with Enrique's Pena's work (And he's familiar with mine: notice the images resemblances... ;))

I have to agree. Great quality, really strong pieces.

Here's the Motherload: Click for Pena Gallery

It may act a little glitchy. Use the arrow keys if the mouse don't work.

Forgot to mention, STeven, that Enrique now builds with integral liners/bolsters. (My stockman was the first.) And also uses bushings for a very smooth action.

Thanks, the telephone answerer(wife?) and I couldn't palaver, so I sent an e-mail asking for a quote and wait time. Would love to get one of these.

Kris provided the necessary contact info, so YEAH, relatively short wait time, and very fair price for the workmanship. Been wanting one of these puppies for over a year, but didn't know he was doing 3 blades yet....that's what happens when you don't keep up on the info.:grumpy:

I coulda had it already.:(

Very nice Elliott, of course. I have Enrique making me a stag Lanny's Clip with washers and no mill relieving due in Feb. as you probably already know. Beautiful and functional knives. Thanks for posting your fine pics Elliott.

Why no mill relief, I always thought that was a really cool part of a handmade slipjoint?

Steven, on the Lannys Clip, it is fairly thick stock on the blade, with that, the inside will look very clean without the relief, and he is jeweling the liners for me. Basically just a cleaner overall appearance inside the liners.
