Would you please tell me the best european knife brands you know? (I suppose that the ones you know, having great companies at a hand's reach in the USA, must be quite good).

Hola Zan. ¡Arriba España! Bienvenido a Bladeforums.

Okay, these are the European brands I own or have owned:

Aitor: Spain
Muela: Spain
Andújar: Spain
Exposito: Spain
Nieto: Spain
Fox: Italy
Maserin: Italy
Lion: Italy
Opinel: France
Wichard: France
Böker: Germany
Klotzli: Switzerland
Victorinox: Switzerland
Wenger: Switzerland
Helle: Norway
Brusletto: Norway
Karesuando: Sweden
KJ Eriksson: Sweden
Fallkniven: Sweden
Frosts: Sweden
Marttiini: Finland
Heimo Roselli: Finland
Iisakki Järvenpää: Finland

All of these manufactures produce decent knives depending on the type of knife you're looking for. Victorinox & Wenger's Swiss Army knives need no introduction. Being that you are from Madrid, I trust you are already familiar with the knives of Spain. The Scandinavian manufacturers mentioned above are a great source for nordic knives and puukkos. Fallkniven has some great fixed blades, although they do have a folder made in Japan for them that is very similar to the William Henry Evolution series. The Italian manufacturers like Fox, Maserin hve a pretty decent line of linerlock folders and lockbacks. They even manufacture knives for Kellam, Delta-Z and Ka-Bar. As far as French knives, I only have experience with the classic Opinel and Wichard. Wichard is a French company that specializes in sailing boat hardware, but they have a neat line of folding deck knives, some with glow-in-the-dark handles. Klotzli of Switzerland has some very nice folders as well, but they are pricey. Böker of Germany has some interesting stuff, but be wary since their QC is sometimes iffy.

Thank you very much. After the usual forum lurking I'll have quite a list of brand webs to crawl.

If you like traditional folding knives, there are still some of the old famous Sheffield Brands like Eye witness still available, but I dont think they are anything special. Maybe someone who has had and used the new Sheffield stuff can comment here. The German Bokers are They are high quality, and certainly the blades are much better quality. They actually are hard enough to hold an edge.

I have a Fallkniven S1 and i think the quality is superb for the price...of course it's not up to custom standards but it does what it's supposed to do...very well i might add...

i think they've started using VG10 in all their blades and convex edges on all of 'em...or at least the majority of their blades...

Ok, now I also want the Boker optima grey bone handle ceramic blade. So I'll have to search for an extensive analysis of ceramic blades.

Argg, Why had the optima ceramic blade to be so ugly compared to the Titan Ceramic Delta?

With a little of luck I'll find that ceramic is not good to make knives. With less luck I'll find a wonderful custom with just this kind of bone handle I never looked after before, and a price as if made with the knife maker's bone. :)

Saludos desde México,

Too many to mention, a couple I´ve used and liked (and didn´t see mentioned here)are Puma from Germany and Rodgers from England, there are many others, Henckels, Bulldog, Mercury, etc, I don´t have much experience with them, but have heard good things about them, Aitor and Muela are more common in México than the American Brands.
