Hi there,

I'm looking for an European made full tang knife with at least 4mm of thickness, under 50$.
I currently use an Hultafors GK and a Glock feldmesser, they are pretty good but i want to taste the "power" of a full tang.

If you have any ideas... Thanks for your help !

For under 50 bucks under 50 bucks it's a bit of a challenge.

Years ago I bought a Böker magnum Elk Hunter and they still sell them. It's a great knife for that budget. However, the last few years I've had troubles with Böker's QC. I can't find if this particular knife has been manufactured in Europe, Argentina, the USA or china.

You might check out Enzo knives.

May I ask why you're specifically looking for a European made knife? Just curious.

I thought Boker was from US, i will check this, thanks !
I'm french (Opinel power) and i prefer to buy "local" by "convictions", and because it's easier here to buy products from EU than from USA (shipping charges, taxes...) [EDIT : and this restriction reduce my choice, which is good for me because there is too many good knives in the world and i have not enough money for all :'(].
But i own many US knives and i acknowledge that you/they have a wonderful panel of good cutlery companies ^^

I'm Dutch, so I know how you feel when it comes to importing knives. Although I have to say, European taxes hurt the wallet too. :(

I think Böker is the way to go. They are originally from Solingen, but they have factories around the world. Try to avoid their knives from Asia and argentina though.

I've been looking around at their collection some more and I saw that the Elk hunter is 440A steel. However, for under 50 € (I didn't bother converting) you can also get some knives in 440C, which Böker always does really well and is generally a superior steel compared to their 440A.

Take a look at the Böker Plus Piranha for example (it's 3,9 mm thick though, but I think we can round it up :) )

Edit: I've been reading their german site and it seems they hardly make any knives in Solingen anymore. :( This means you're really gambling with their iffy Quality Control. Perhaps looking around for second-hand knives will get you more value for money?

Over here in the US we have inexpensive full tang carbon steel butcher knives made new by Ontario or vintage examples from second hand stores which are very popular for converting to woods use like men on the frontier used to do.

If you can find something similar there in France , then that's exactly the way I'd go.

Yep i get a looong list of US budget full tangs after reading threads for hours on this forum ^^.
From these brands : Green river Russell, Gerber, Buck, Schrade, Cold steel, Kershaw, Old Hickory.

If i don't find European i think i will get a Bucklite Max. But i still have hope !

Thanks to Lood i find this one, looks good

Edit : "German engineering, manufactured in Taiwan or China, unless otherwise stated." what a shame :(

And this on another thread (ok the brand doesn't look old/traditionnal)

Not sure the combination you mention in your title of budget and survival is a wise one.
Maybe save a little longer and buy a nice full tang blade from Lionsteel, Fjallkniven, Enzo...

Enzo blades are very nice, and it seems to be possible to get some naked blades at a budget price, around 50$. 3.6mm thick is good enough.
The cudeman 151-H is good too and at 40$ so this kind of knives "exist" ^^
I didn't know the brand Lionsteel, added to my list even if the blades seems expensive. Thanks !

If you know another good brands, i take !

Here is my actual European brands known list :
Fr : Opinel, Laguiole
Ger : Otter messer/mercator solingen k55k, loewenmesser, Boker/magnum,
Spain : Aitor, Muela, Cudeman
It : Lionsteel, Antonini
Condor (Salvador), Svord (NZ), Okapi (AfrSud), Mikov (cz), Kizlyar (ru), Grohmann (Canada)
Scandi : Roselli, Rossi, Hultafors, Mora, Marttiini, Helle, Brisa, Kellam, Brusletto, Fallkniven, Bahco (mora), Casström, Lindblom, EKA, Normark, Rapala, Fiskars, Brisa/Enzo

The Mora garberg may be good but for this price we can found so much better, hope they will reduce his price in a near future !

The Terava : never heard of them, but I'M IN LOVE OMG

I believe the Nieto Coyote fits your description. Made in Spain, and I'm sure it's at least 4mm thick with a full tang and olive wood scales. They sell on Ebay for less than $50.

Is that important; I'm sure they do. The company who makes them have being doing it for yonks and have pride in what they do.
Think you would be incredibly unlucky to get anything duff from them. Pretty sure they would sort you out if you did. On reputation to me it wasn't an issue, I trust them.
