Evansville Defender

I have a small 1.5lb hatchet marked
"Evansville Defender"
Anybody have any info?

Evansville Tool Works made hatchets.
I would think that you found their "Defender" model. I wonder if it were named after Carrie Nation's hatchet, the "Home Defender"?

Based on the font, how old do you think the handle is?
Based on the font of THE DEFENDER I am guessing it is early 70's???
I don't see Evansville stamped anywhere

Probably pretty hard to track down who made the axe for Sears.

My money says that Sears sold it, Evansville made it.

Most of Sears' stuff is re-badged other brands. The old Sears guns are just normal Winchesters, Marlins and such.

I was sorta pissed at first
I bought it on EBAY because the ad said it was a CRAFTSMAN hatchet
I get it and realize it's a hatchet with a Craftsman handle!!
It's my own fault for not requesting better pictures or asking "is CRAFTSMAN stamped anywhere on the head?"
Some one had painted the head silver with spray paint

The Sears Theory sounds likely to me as well......:thumbup:
