Hey guy's

Have any of you had any experience with the even heat kilns I was thinking about purchasing one so I could start doing my own heat treat on D-2 and 154 cm. So I am basiclly just looking for pro's and con's to them and how well they work on heat treating these two steels. If any of you have one i would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Thanks Daniel S

Many people around here own Evenheat kilns and are very happy with them.

Non-paying members can use this site-specific Google search engine for here on Bladeforums. You will find many threads and entries on not only Evenheat but comparisons to other furnaces as well.

I have had mine for about 3 years,no problems with it.I chose the evenheat for the bigger chamber as I like to do several blades at once. The only draw back is it is 220v,but that was not a problem as had 220 in the shop.

I am very happy with mine. I like the fact that the door swings out of my way and I do not have to reach over a hot door to get to the knife when done.

I purchased an older model Evenheat kiln on Craigslist, and am very happy with it. Mine does not have the digital readout, but works great just the same!

No problems with mine.
I have the fancy, programmable control, and it works like a champ.

If I had 1 complaint it would be that the hinge is a little feeble, but I heard a rumor that they use different hinges now.

i love mine sept for that hinge on the door too
a little fab work and i could have a little slider thing to pop the door up right as it closes would fix it all
but i just have not got to it yet
had the kiln over 2 years now (shows you how worried i am about it :)

I Have a 18" Evenheat. It works great and is about 5yrs old. It is wired 220.
the only thing I would do different is I would buy the next longer size.

I purchased a Evenheat back in 2004 and it's been a pleasure utilizing it for all the heat treating projects. It comes with a cheat sheet for using it. I would recommend a book on heat treating various metals. One thing, if you purchase one make sure you get the 220v. It will save on electric, come up faster and be more sufficient. There are many knife makers out here who use this oven and will tell the samething. This one here in my shop will go up to 2300 degrees. So, I would recommend it to anyone.
