Im about to finally spring for my first oven and notice that for an extra charge they offer a power disconnect when you open the door. Just wondering if this is commonly ordered on these ovens by those using them. This is a large purchase for me and dont mind spending the extra money if it is needed but if it really poses no threat of operating without the disconnect i definately want to save the extra cash. Im looking at the 22.5 KF model. Thanks in advance for your help.

I say NO. If you have more than one blade to quench, it will probably cool too low for the next, and take too long to catch back up. I have that size in an Evenheat. It is not a necessary feature.

I built my own oven and plan to install a door switch for safety reasons. For now I shut off the power to it before I open the door and turn it back on when the door closes. This prevents you from accidently bumping a coil with your blade. Remember that the coils don't just get hot by themselves. Bumping a live coil with a blade could send 110/220 volts to your hand.

Spend the extra and be safe.

I say YES.

What the switch does is turn off the power to the SSR and thus disable the coils while the door is open. This will prevent a nasty shock should a blade or tongs touch a coil. I find it makes no difference in doing multiple blades. When you close the door, the power to the coils automatically comes on.

Yes, if you short your blade out tto a coil it will cost you an element or maybe the blade. Might tickle your toes hard to. I have a door sw on my oven and do multiple blades. Open oven power goes off to elements, grab blade, close door power on.
