I have access to an older evenheat ceramic kiln. It has a temp Guage and a dial from low to high. Can I buy a digital controller for it or am I stuck with the old way?
You can buy a digital controller. If it's a top loading kiln, it will be a hassle to work with. If it's a front loading kiln, it just might serve you well. You'll need a type K thermocouple, a SSR, and a PID. There are folks who can explain that better than I can.
How did you make out? I also just got a old evenheat ceramic top load kiln. I haven't used it yet, it's an older model with separate switches for each element. How long does it take you from start to finish to HT a blade?
You should take a look at how James Helm modified a regular Evenheat knife kiln to be "top loading" for Ht'ing his hawks. It may not be as much of a problem as you might think.
