Hi All,
Although this applies to Australian makers, I thought I would add a link to the thread here in case anyone misses some vital info that could save them a bunch of money when importing knife making gear into any country.

A quick rundown:
I ordered an Evenheat oven from the US, shipped to Australia.
I had a choice of two shipping options:
Delivered to airport @ US$570
Delivered to my door @ US$698

I stupidly thought I would save money by collecting it myself - boy was I wrong. I didn't do my research, turns out I have to pay $400 in additional fees to pick it up myself.

So I'm just posting this in the hopes of saving anyone thinking of importing a kiln into any country from making the same mistake I did.

Always pay to have it shipped to your door!

Believe me Phil we would love to spend our money at home ,but alas our market isn't big enough to support a complete supplier of everything we need. Most of us build what we need but sometimes its just as hard to get the parts as it is to get a complete item. My evenheat has already payed for it's self in two years, not to mention the knowledge i have gained in the process. And don't forget the price of heat treating is going up each year pluss the postage both ways and the time it takes to get your blades back. Stevo you have done the right thing, despite the cost, now you are free to make knives to your hearts content, even over christmas if you like. :)

Yeah, it's unfortunate but it's just one of the joys of living in Australia
I'm looking forward to getting it all set up and experimenting, It's been a long time goal to get an oven and start playing around with the heat treat so what's another few hundred in the long run eh?

Watch this space, I'll post when I'm all up and running with some shop pics!
