Evenheat questions/concerns

I've had two toaster ovens and neither one would hold ther temp I wanted it at. It would vary as much as forty degrees and my wife was tired of me using her stove to temper in, so I bought an oven.
there was a discussion way back on this
some t/o's just don't hack it:thumbdn: and some are AOK

Good point soeone brought up on tempering in the HT oven after hardening. the first blade I Ht'd, left the door open, and watched the temp on the readut drop to 240 degrees. I put my blade in, set a cycle for 400 degrees, two hours.....closed the door...5 minutes later i checked the oven...600 degrees! Time to re-heat treat....the amient temp was able to drop where the thermocouple was, and read 240 with the door open, but the heat left in the bricks brought it way back up the second i closed that door. A learning lesson....
