Evenheat won't program past 1800?

This is how to change the max temp. range for a SetPro controller:

Change STP Controller from °F to °C.
1) Turn Power off
2) Hold down Up Arrow Key, turn on the power, continue to hold down the Enter Key until “Edit” is in the display.
3) Release Key
4) Display should read User4
5) Press Enter
6) °F Displayed
7) Use the Arrow key to change from °F to °C
8) Press Enter
9) There will be a temperature displayed at this point
10) Use the UP arrow keys to choose maximum programmable temperature allowed.
Ceramic/ Porcelain/Pottery kilns use 2400F/ 1316C
Knife Ovens use 2200F/ 1204C
Glass Kilns use 1800F / 982C
11)Press the Enter Key
12)Complete

I don't know why they insist on sending these "knifemaking" ovens out with a default setting of 1800 degrees, or at least add the instructions into the manual. They are fully aware that they are being used a knife ovens. I guess their tech support people are bored and like answering the same question over and over.

It's pretty rare Brad

I've had dozens of them through here and only one ever had the 1800 problem. They don't put it in the manual, because it isn't supposed to happen - and if they publish it, some idiot is sure to program one for 2500 just to see what she'll do. (Kind of like bypassing the speed limiter on a Ford Explorer )

The newspaper article won't say anything about the stupid abusive programming. It'll just say 'EvenHeat Kiln burns down house'. :(

The SetPro is also used on other ovens - some of which are used for glass firing, where an 1800f limit is normal. It shouldn't happen - but it's an easy fix if it does.

It may in fact be rare but it sure is a bummer when the weekend comes around, you get your shiney new knifemaking oven all set up and ready to heat treat a batch of blades for the first time, then find out it wont ramp up to the temp you need and no one is around at Evenheat to tell you why.

True enough Brad

That's why I hoped I could help Matt on this one. Sadly, he has a SetPro and I've never seen the problem except on a RMII.

Some problems your distributor has seen before. Some will have to go to Evenheat. They aren't open weekends (though I have had responses on weekends from time to time) but they will address any problems in short order.

For sure, contact your distributor. Most are small businesses and the concept of 'weekend' kind of blurrs the same as it does for a knifemaker. :D

Rob, I'm an overworked dolt... my instructions as per Barbara are now in the previous post I made above... Holiday season and retail will quickly turn a guy's brain to mush!

You and I should chat some time...send me an email when you think it might be feasible, I'd like to pick your brain, if you'd allow me to!

Thanks again, everyone!

Glad to hear you got it straightened out Matt. I've had my Evenheat w/ Setpro set-up for about a year w/ no complaints. Temps fluctuate about 4deg. but I don't think that's too major. It's correctable but an older fella once told me "If it aint broke, don't fix it!!". :D

Rob, from what I've seen on here your service & dedication almost makes me wish I lived on the other side of the river!! ;):thumbup:

I am glad that you got yours setup right now Matt. I set mine up when I purchased it back in 2004. I got all the instructions for it. I set my heat treat on program 1 and temper on program 2. I have other programs stored for other various steels. This one will reach 2300 degrees and it works like a house. I am running 220V here in the shop. Have a nicer day today then you had yesterday. :)

Mine did this occasionally...contacted the folks and they emailed me an instructional letter, basically reprogramming the gizmo. It worked perfectly after that. If if ever had another stroke/seizure I simply reprogrammed it again and no problems. I can get you the re-program instructions if need be.

GD57, if you are talking to Matt, well I sure hope he figured it out since he posted this more than 2 years ago. ;)

Got it figured out! Tracy Mickly helped me out.

I know this is a 2 year old thread, but I figured it was still the same problem, just with a newer oven.

The RM3 control has a different reprograming sequence.

Sorry Brad, didn't mean anything bad by that. I was just making sure people knew that this was not about the original post. I read 3/4 of the way through myself before I realized. :o

Well, share, so the next guy who's looking, like you did, will look no further...

Sorry, I got to excited to go use my new oven. YAY!
