If I'm not careful, it'll be my head on the choppin block. I got her a pretty nice gift for Mother's Day, so I think I'm safe this time around.

Speaking of ironwood chopping blocks. Mine didn't crack, it darn near split in two. I'm soaking in now. TC said she'd replace it if it didn't seal up. She's a great gal as well.

Yes she's a great gal for sure. After about a year or so owning one you have to understand that if you buy one you should be ready to use it and continue to use it. I understand you're not home all the time BB and that is not your chopping blocks best friend. I neglected mine for a while too becuase of home construction reasons. I did get some big cracks in it and Im not sure what she told you how to deal with it but if you put it in a tub of hot water for a few days changing the water out a few times a day with fresh hot water then it will magicaly seal up. she was not kidding. Mine did just that. After I tried to use it it did develop some new cracks but only because i did not use it regular enough. They are made to use all the time forever. I put mine in a trash bag and poured a pint of mineral oil into the bag and forgot it for a few months until it sucked it all up. Then I poured another pint of oil on it and it sucked it all up again. I finally took it from the bag about a month ago and it still had some small cracks but it gets regular use on the counter top now and the cracks are slowly getting tighter and may even go away. They are made for regular use so if you are not home using them all the time then they may not work for you but if you can integrate them to regular use then they cant be beat! Take your Ang Khola Bowie and whack the hell out of anything and the only thing you'll have to worry bout is your wrist! Do the bathtub hot water soak first then decide what next. Let me know what happens and Ill get you up to the block. If youre only home occasionally then you can store it oiled liberally and it will be ready for you when you get back. All that aside it is far superior to anything you will ever find to put on your counter! Im pretty sure you got sumpin to abuse it with! Enjoy! It can take it!

Heres mine fifteen minutes ago:

The only way to abuse these blocks are to not use them.

Best way to do it, is use them all day, everyday, the best ones come from "old" Chinese BBQ restaurants that have roast duck, roast pig, soy sauce chicken, saled chicken, etc... They use them all day literally, and after a few years are so soaked in oily juices, that it takes many years of non use to actually dry out and crack.

If you use it to chop raw and cooked foods on it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, it'll stay very healthy.

Where do these chopping boards come from?

Got mine years ago as a hand me down from my grandparents, and one from a restaurant that closed down. I believe my grandparents got it from "The Wok Shop" in SF Chinatown. My friend at Kameii Household and Restaurant Supply in SF has them, but they cost a fortune to ship, so, she doesn't ship them at all...

I think Ndoghouse bought it from the Wok Shop, he may have more details for you.

Thanks for the info. I was trying to discern if it was a BladeForums member creation. If it's generic restaurant supply I can save the money for the next DD....

It's definitely not "generic", Ndoghouse has more details.
