I recently got a new knife/sheath and I love the sheath but I think since it is newly made and dyed the color looks "streaky" is there something easy (non leather maker here) I can do to even out the color?
You stand a good chance to making it even worse....if it has a finish on it, it has to be stripped.....how to strip it? Depends on what finish is on it.....then, if you're able to strip it evenly, you re-dye it....and hope you do a better job of it......then re-finish. So in a word, no, it's not easy.
can you show us a picture" that would go a long way in knowing what it looks like and then perhaps I could offer a solution - it may be a streaky die job, but could be several other things as well giving it that finish.
No matter what I doubt it will be as simple as rubbing something on it but may not be as much of a job as suggested above since over the years I've found most commercial finishes are dye permeable so re-dying does not always entail a major redo, although a light cleaning with alcohol is suggested to clean off any surface waxes or oils.
