That’s the way! Spread the love, haha. Steel teaches responsibility and gets the job done.I've converted many, to varying levels.
Firstly, my grandpa converted me. We were on his heels every summer for a good while and he was quite handy. We were so impressed when he would pull out his pocket knife and fix something. He had an electrician pattern by Ric-Nor that was his favorite.
I've converted many people at a low level by gifting them Swiss army knives. They're the best "gateway drug", since they're so useful. After you sharpen it for them a few times is when you give them the ol' "If you're interested, there are knives that holds their edge better..." after which they'll be fully hooked.
My daughter (8) loved my collection and when I use them. She has a nice little collection now too. She got her first knife, a pink camo Victorinox Classic, when she was 3.
I gifted my girlfriend a Vic Classic last year and she loves it. On her keys, she says it gets used every day. Just Friday, she said she's ready for a bigger knife, which she'd carry all the time in her purse for opening boxes and such. I showed her a bunch of options from my collection, and she chose an old Gerber with a blacked out blade that used to be my favorite. (There were MUCH better options, but she considered most of them "too scary" or "too pointy".)
I'm working on my girlfriend's daughter now. She's a teen, so it'll be hard, but I got her a Victorinox Jetsetter 2 for Christmas; we'll see how that goes! (It has no knife blade, so she can carry it anywhere)
I have one friend whom I've known since we were 11 (33 years) that I gifted a Victorinox Cadet to. He carries that on his keys and just loves it. Treats it as a big fob.
My girlfriend's neighbor's soon is 10, and with his mom's permission, I gifted him a Victorinox Hiker. He loves the saw on my '08 Soldier when we were out in the first preserve one day. Her daughter already had a small collection, but it was all junk. I have her a (yep, another Victorinox) One Hand Trekker, plain edge. She loves it.
I'm always looking for more people to convert! Both genders.
She’ll eventually want a smatchet, watch out.Converted my wife. Gave her a Victorinox Classic to put on her keychain several years ago, and over the years she became aware of how useful it is to have a knife handy at all times. Then a year ago she mentioned she wanted a bigger knife for herself, after she realized she was borrowing mine on a regular basis. Started her off with a purple Delica. Now she has added Benchmade and an MKT, and evidently my small Sebenza which seems to come and go in the safe.
She also gave me a large Sebenza for my birthday, so I can’t say too much about the apparent appropriation of my small one. I’m just glad to have a wife that doesn’t care how many knives I purchase.
Got my GF into knives some 2 years ago. She loves kershaw knives.Could be friends or family (wife, son, daughter, nephew, or niece). Would be interesting to hear some stories about this since ours is a fairly niche hobby.
