Just curious if any of you guys have ever bought a cheap knife, say less than 30 bucks, and been impressed by it.

I bought a pink Ka-Bar Dozier (hey, I’m comfortable with my masculinity lol) earlier today because I am basically trying to support all the manufactures that are represented in this great forum. Anyway, I am not really into fixed blades so when I discovered the Dozier folder for only 18 bucks I couldn’t say no.

Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed by the build quality; as I have been with other brands that were manufactured in Taiwan. The blade is perfectly centered and has a phonebook slicing edge out of the box. In fact, it is one of the sharpest knives from the factory I have ever received. The lockup is solid with only a tiny bit of up and down play, nothing at all to be concerned with, but I will update this thread if I need to.

So, have any of you people been impressed by a “cheap” knife?
Fill free to post pics btw

Absolutely. One of the great knife values in the history of knives was a Mcusta OEM for Browning called the Ice Storm. I bought one brand new for $30.00 several years ago. I still have it and I still love it. Here's a borrowed pic:

Well i could say the obvious, Spyderco Tenacious, but im going to say the Gerber, yeah i actually chose a gerber, DMF manual. I picked this blade up about 5 months ago at a local outdoor store in a combo pack with the Gator Machete Pro(also a great tool) for $27. So far im blown away with this awesome tactical masterpeice. Never had an issue with centering, bladeplay, etc. . Also it has REALLY thick textured g10 scales. Absolutely love it, also it was used by Rick from the walking dead :D so that was pretty awesome

I love my persistence its a truely great knife it was my first spydie and couldnt be more impressed with it for $30ish im having a hard time finding anything of equal quality that i alao love the design on. I may get a tenacious to try out the slightly larger size.

I've never spoken these words before and never will again, but the damn SRM 710 is a steal at $10. I don't carry it because I'm a snob.

I have a dozier and it's a good knife:) I would say my all time favorite under $30 would be the kershaw volt 2. had a spot in my pocket for two years and never let me down.

Victorinox SAK's are probably cream of the crop for impressive under $30. So many new designs from big name brands cost 5-10x more and have functional or fit/finish problems a $20 Camper won't. Not to mention versatility in daily use.

^^ Made me laugh, thanks for the honesty

Its nice to hear that there are other affordable knives out there that I haven't heard of yet... keep 'em coming:D

Svord Peasant for about $15 shipped is one that comes to mind. Will out cut many knives at several times the price point.

Opinel for 10 bucks got my juices flowing!

Byrd Meadowlark2 is also a fantastic bargain at $18

I was very impressed with the Mora Companion, Sanrenmu knives, and Opinel knives. They are all fantastic value knives, and everyone should at least give them a chance.

I actually use my Opinel knife all the time in the kitchen and as a steak knife. It's amazing how well the knife slices, and it seems to hold an edge very well. I've never had a problem with it getting dull too quickly.

i bought a boker hyper cheap of ebay. it was great. used it for about a year.hard. then i lost it! it was at least as good as my mini grip.

I picked up a Kershaw Nerve for $10 on sale as well as a tremor for $10 and I loved both of them at those prices they are a steal!

I have a couple of Moras and a couple of Bucklite IIs that were under $30 and are good, solid knives.

Pretty much all I buy are knives under $30. I have:

SAKs
Svord Peasant
Buck 300 series slip joints
Buck Vantage Select.

They are all good knives. SAKs are obviously great at any price. If I wanted a bombproof knife, I'd take the Peasant. For EDC, I love the Buck 300s.

Opinel made me wander why I spend excessive amounts on folding cutlery. I enjoy cheap, and expensive folders, but can't help, but be enamored by the inexpensive Opinel.

Outside of these boards, most of the world works with cheap knives. They may not be as pretty as our's but once you cut into a few durock cement boards with a knife that no longer matters.
