The "what's too expensive to carry" thread got me thinking.

Ever been robbed of your knife?

Like you see on TV, where some thug jumps someone in the street or in a cafe or something, takes everyones purse / wallet / jewelery / pocket contents, etc.

They can have my watch & wallet -- no money it it anyway, but I'd sure hate to hand over my TnT.

Mike

No Mike, that's not gonna happen. As you say, they can have my wallet but they aint getting my knife.
I know you guys will understand this, my son thinks I'm nuts. When we got to the gym everything goes in the locker which is locked with a padlock, except my knives. My money, wallet, and everything else goes in there but the knives go in my gym bag and stay with me. I keep a couple of those little sack ups in my bag so they dont get scratched up. Hey, you never know when someone's gonna rob a locker, right?

Only by my wife. She's robbed me of my spyderco wegner jr, bm 705, bm 330, bm mini-stryker, heck almost all of my smaller blades. If she gets the mail before me I'm done. She's not getting my spyderco temperance jr though.

I had a United Cutlery fixed blade that I found in the woods taken out of my desk at work. About a week later it was back in the top drawer. Guess it was too bad to even bother stealing. :)

Yep, don't just give a BG your only weapon...right? He might get some nasty ideas... don't give no BG a knife, gives em all kinds of ideas!

Lol! I took and modified that from Preacher.

Bad luck would follow the crook the remainder of their days if one ever tried to! First of all, it would be a little hard for someone to rob me in the woods, in the dark!

Was "on alert" and had to run home for a small family emergency. My 3-day pack was in the front seat of my truck. . .

While I was in the house, 20 minutes, some friggin' low-life POS removed my Mad Dog ATAK 2 (horizonally mounted to the lower back support) and my Microtech SOCOM DA (vertically mounted to the upper portion of the right front shoulder strap) from the pack. . .

Had to go back to 2 old carries until replacements arrived. Word in the neighborhood ~ the hunt was on and there would be hell and pain to pay if "someone" ever found out who "took my s@#$ !"

My replacements arrived 5 days later. . .

Approx. 2 weeks later ~ I found a large plastic bag hanging from the hasp on my motorcycle shed. Inside the plastic bag. . .my SOCOM and Mad Dog wrapped in a white towel. . . There was also a small white piece of paper that had the following typed on it, "Hunting over."

One forumite lost his CS Gunsite at gun point.
He was happy to be alive but mad he lost his folder.

This is EXACTLY why I carry my .32ACP Seecamp in a Hedley back pocket holster.
And no, I would not shoot someone over trying to steal my knife. (Unless it was my Sebenza. :)) However, I am a little afraid that someone who comes up to rob me has something else on his mind also.
Therefore, the Seecamp. (Or any of my other pocket pistols. I have custom pocket holsters for them all.

At 10 minutes past midnite on 1/1/67, I was stopped by a police officer in Tijuana, Mexico. He slammed me up against a wall, and proceeded to remove my nice little 3" Solingen steel single blade trapper style knife. Told me it was illegal. I pointed out that someone was selling switchblades on the street about 10 feet from us. At that point, he pulled his gun, stuck it into my belly, and demanded I give him all my money. I gave him all that was in one pocket. He holstered his gun, and let me go. Then when I'd only gotten a few yards from him, he started blowing his whistle and pointing at me. Guess it wasn't as much money as he thought proper. Anyhow, thankfully, I was in great shape -- in Staging Battalion prior to going to Vietnam. I outran him and a bunch of his fellow crooks to the border.

I can truthfully say and mean, that if I ever had the opportunity I'd cut that guy as close to hamburger as I could without killing him. Would feed him parts of his own body, then cut his throat. I'm not really vengeful, you understand, but I'd sure try to make him regret that move before he died.

I don't know if this qualifies but I've had occasions where LEOs said they were going to confiscate my knives. I agreed they could have 'em and then asked for a reciept and got the booger look. I politely explained that while I was compliying I was going to request the court return my property and would also be filing a report with the desk Sgt on duty. All 3 times the blades were immediatly handed back. Basically the lesson is know your laws and carry only "legal" stuff. Now if we're talking about an outright mugging.....I figure if they've taken there fair share of 165grn .40s and are still askin then I guess I'll hand over the blade.

Mr. Siegel,

Your experiences are not unique. It seems that it is the hobby of some LEO's to collect knives in that manner. I know of someone who is a LEO and does collect knives using that particular method. He views ANYONE who carries anything other than a SAK or Barlow as a perp. He also feels that he can look at someone and determine whether they are a good guy or a bad guy.

In my fondest dreams, there is a especially hot version of Hell for corrupt, misguided LEO's.

I've had my whole collection stolen from my house, along with most everything else. Really pissed me off. If i ever find who did it, they better have a nice wad of cash to pay me for everything.

I've never had a knife taken from me personally - say in a street encounter, however, i did disarm one little BG that tried to stab me with a steak knife. It was so blunt that the back edge was the sharpest part of the knife.....

Interesting that no one has admitted to having a knife "removed" from their person (except by an LEO...). I am sure there are a few of us out there, but no one wants to admit to such a "tactical blunder"...

A few years ago this happened to me:

While travelling in Central America I "lost" my Gerber EZOut in an attempted robbery. Early in the morning at a bus station, my girlfriend and I were the only "foreigners" in site. It was the classic ruse of distraction and pickpocket. The pickpocket was unfortunately (for him) not fast enough and I caught his wrist and proceeded to smash him into the nearest bus. He fought like a maniac to keep the money in his hand. At this point one of his friends tried to grab me and I noticed that another of his friends was moving towrds me with a knife - MY KNIFE! - it had been knocked out of my pocket when the pickpocket tried to get the cash...I managed to "pop" the robber in the bicep and make him let go of the money and then threw him at his friend with the knife. Luckily, all three ran away rather than continue the fight.

It was a difficult spot - my girlfriend was smart enough to stay with our packs, but I was worried about her in all the mess... Neither myself or my girlfriend were hurt and our money was not stolen (We both had our money spread in various pockets and moneybelts, etc...). The worst was that my knife was gone. Happily, it was a "cheap" knife that I had bought for the trip and had expectedt to give away and I had a Spyderco Delica in my bag as a spare.

Weird things can happen - no matter how much training you have or how good you think you are...

Yeah, the thieving bastids in the local customs and postal services accounted for 3 of my packages over the last 2 years (BM330, BM401, Camillus EDC).

My younger brother stole my junk penknife when I was ten - I have a 1 1/2" scar down my left thumb to show for my clumsy (and violent) attempt to reposess my property that didn't quite work out.

Last November I had a Cold Steel XL Gunsite stolden out of my mailbox while I was at work. (I know it was there, as I contacted the mailman, and he told me that it was delivered (and the "Delivery Confirmation Numbers" confirmed delivery...To my mailbox).

No-one would have the balls (or be THAT stupid!) as to try to rob ME of my knife (or ANYTHING for that matter) IN PERSON..

I've never had one stolen but My Son did.I bought Him a Spyderco Endura for His Birthday and while He was at the Gym,some low life stole it.I hope He cuts His finger off.tom.:mad:

2 factory knives off my table at a show.
1 Case/Bose got lost via Airborne Express. (still waiting on that insurance refund after over 6 months).
