I know I have. The only one that I can think of is the BM Gaucho with cpm m4. I wasn't crazy about the blade shape but I wanted

a knife with cpm m4. I shouldn't have bought it.....I never used it much.

What about you. Ever buy a knife to try out a new blade steel ?

A few years ago I bought the Spyderco S30V Wal-Mart Native to try out the steel. The knife totally sold me on S30V and it became my my favorite steel for a folder .

I have a Gaucho, it's an interesting design. I cannot be sure, but I remember reading some posts on here that the steel on that knife was really soft compared to other production companies using the same steel.

When I was in the market for a Benchmade 707 Sequel the M390 mini grip became available. Never interested in the mini grip I bought it anyways since that was probably the lowest price knife at the time with M390 steel.

Done this a couple of times... Usually it's not just for the steel, but also for some other aspects of the knife as well

Kershaw CB Leek - curious about CPM-D2 & modified wharncliffe blade shape

Enlan EL06 - curious about 9Cr13MoV compared to the more common 8Cr13MoV

Mora Crafline (stainless and carbon) - curious to compare the 1095 carbon to a Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel in two otherwise identical knives

Opinel (stainless and carbon) - similar to Moras above, except I use the Opinels exclusively on food

I'm fairly new to knife collecting (and here too) and I just bought the Warn version of the Mini Barrage for both the G-10 scales and D2 blade.

I like both better so far.

Yup, I've bought some knives I might otherwise have overlooked because they had a desirable steel.

I was very close to buying the m4 Gaucho as well, because it was the only thing out there in m4 at the time, just didnt like the blade shape

I really want to try out the Spyderco Gale Bradley because of the rave reviews the CPM-M4 is getting, but I don't like the design or blade profile, at all.

Are there any other production folders using CPM-M4 that are reasonably priced?

I bought a BRKT Bravo Necker in stainless and found it to be incredibly handy and easy to sharpen, but not great at holding an edge.

When they came out with the Bravo Necker in CPM 3V I bought another one, hoping that the steel would better fit the knife.

I've never bought a knife I didn't otherwise like because I wanted to try the steel.

I got Kershaw Ricochets and Random Tasks for the CPM 440V/S60V and several 1840 Shallots for th CPM S110V. I got Spyderco Enduras for the ZDP-189 and Military models for the CPM S440V/S60V and CPM S90V. I got Buck 110's for the BG-42 and S30V. Just got a Benchmade 710 for the M390. I got Camillus and Boye knives for the Talonite and Stellite. I got Mission knives for the Beta Titanium and Boker knives for the Cera Titan blade material. There are others, but the answer is yes.

I bought a Japanese Carpenters knife pretty much because I had a keen interest in Hitatchi super blue steel and I also purchased a Buck CSAR-T due to the fact it had Paul Bos ATS-34 and I wanted to see how it compared to 154CM and S30V.
