Ever feel guilty carrying a different brand?

I just started collecting knives last month but up until then I carried a benchmade every single day for about three years. I never intended to buy any other brand. I got into collecting knives sort of accidentally as I was researching my new benchmade I ordered. I was amazed and in awe of several other brands out there and immediately ordered a few. But I must admit I felt weird, kind of guilty, for some reason carrying a knife that wasn't benchmade. I'm carrying my new PM2 that just arrived today and I absolutely love it but still I'm more anxious I think for my new BM to get here hopefully this week finally.

Do any of you feel loyal to your first knife brand or just like certain knives even if you own better ones? Or does all this just sound weird haha? Even as I type it i think it sounds weird.

It's understandable, but I haven't committed to any specific company. I love BM, Spyderco, and even my SOG. I like diversity, but sometimes feel as if I betray my EDC by ordering a new one :)

After carrying my Tanto Blur for two years I feel bad seeing it lying on my edc shelf not being carried.

NO, don't look back.

Variety is the spice of life.

Just don't tell my wife I told you that. :foot:

Since I buy knives from manufacturers and they are complete strangers....no. Why would I? I don't owe them anything...I already paid.

If I become buddies with the guy who owns Benchmade, and if he starts giving me knives...then I would feel guilty.

No..

I'm a slave to no blade. I like several brands. Benchmade, Spyderco, ZT, Sog, Cold Steel, Ka-Bar, Condor and so on. It's ok to have a favorite but no need to disparage a brand just to show some type of loyalty to another.

Like what you like and enjoy. It's a lot easier that way...

And after all these years I'm discovering new brands all the time. Just received my first HI imports and I absolutely love it! That's what's so great about this hobby. Something new to discover everyday, or as often as you want.

Best of luck with your new found interest and welcome to the forums...

I look for certain characteristics or properties in knives rather than brands. Sometimes this can focus my knife collection on a particular brand simply because they make several knives with those properties.

Don't feel guilty! I tend to personalize knives thinking they almost have "feelings", so when one hasn't been carried in a while I pick it up and carry it to give it some love ;).

It's super weird, but it's the truth!

I drive different makes of cars also. Whichever gives the best service...is most reliable.

I am more worried about which ones to stay away from....

There are so many production brands now. Hard for a noob to know which ones are overpriced scrap and which are quality knives. I have been relying on the comments and suggestions from folks who post here.... and a couple other places online.

I obviously have my preference, but there are too many fine knives from other manufacturers to pass up.

Nope. Too many great designs from too many great manufacturers & custom makers. Gotta try them all. (I'm less than a quarter of the way through my "want-to-try" list.)

I have a similar problem with swiss army knives and some people that I know have the same problem ,I don't care what folder/fixed blade do I carry or buy but when it comes to a SAK I only buy a Victorinox.

I carried a SpyderCo Pacific Salt for the better part of a decade... it feels kinda odd when I don't pick it up, I never feel bad for leaving it home.
