Ever Had a CHEAP Knife You Really Loved?

i love and still do reach for my cold steel bushman when out and about.

i have many other fine knives to select from but this knife has somewhat of a sentimental value attached because its been with me almost everywhere.

for $30 bux its a bit more then a mora but not quite as expensive as some other knives and i find that it is a very versatile knife with a few modifications, mainly i paracord wrapped the handle to give it some grip.

its long enough to do some light chopping, can baton wood decently and is easy to sharpen.

cheers

Until a friend bent the tip, I had a Gerber "Bolt-Action" drop point folder that sat in my toolbox for probably 15 years or more. It was a monster to sharpen but kept an edge forever it seemed. Only drawback, it was made pre-pocket clips so I carried it in a belt sheath.

My $12 mid sized Kissing Crane Brown Mule has become one of my favorites. It's tough and just the right size.

I guess it depends on what you call cheap, but I have a Victornox Swiss Army knife that goes almost everywhere with me. I don't know what model, but it has an orange peeler I can't live without.

For my social camping, I have a real cheapie that I love, the Cold Steel Kudu. It is cheap, so if it gets lost on an outing, I'm certainly not out a lot of money, but it is useful. It has also been known to stow away in my back pocket for trips to work.

I have a S&W Extreme Op's folder that I just love. My favorite knife is my SAK Explorer. For hunting I won't go without my Buck 442c. The combined price of these three knives is under 100.00. IMO you can buy some very good knives for less than 25.00.

I recently ordered a S&W cameo knife on a spur of the moment. It cost $8.99 and
why did I get it? To qualify for free shipping in a SMKW order. When it arrived, I wasn't
expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. It had a cameo finished aluminum frame
with a 3.75-inch, plain edged 440C recurve blade with disc openers instead of thumb
busters. It sharpened up to a mean edge, then I put it in a box for a rainy day. It
won't replace any of my primary knives, but it's worth the twenty-something dollars
one can find it for elsewhere.

S&W hrt! Twelve bucks. Carson style flipper, waved, 440C that works well, magnesium scales (odd yes), nested liners... Weird knife but I love her! Im gonna buy a bunch of em.

I've worn this Browning liner lock for over a year before I got my Benchmade 710.

Seems like it's made from pretty good steel. The edge polishes up like crazy, so it makes me think 420HC, which is used in some Browning knives, but a lot of their folders are 440C. Bass Pro no longer sells this model, but I think it was about $15 (another reason I'm thinking 420). I'm also a big fan of quince handles.

I had a Cold Steel Ultralock back in the 80's I EDC'd it for 3 years, It slipped out of my pocket at the University of Oklahoma campus one day. It was about $35 or so.

My 11yr old son bought me a 2 knife package off of ebay for Father's Day. Think he paid about $20.00 for both. I think the make is Maxim, or something like that. One I just threw in my drawer. The other turned out to take a great edge and cuts like a hot knife through butter. I keep it attached to a magnet on my refrigerator, so I always have a knife handy in my kitchen/living room area, while running around in my sweats. Turned out to be a real handy little blade.

Here's one of my good cheap blades; CampUSA Heavy Duty... :)
