Ever had to replace a Square Wheel grinder motor?

Baldor and Wilton may have had a deal so Wilton wold be the only supplier with that part number

On the face of it, there's nothing special about that.

However when I look at motor specs, I find the 3400rpm motors at 13 amps and the 1700rpm motors less
13 is the max you can put on a 15 amp circut.
The new motors are now more efficient and may have lower amp ratings.

do you want to do fixed speed, or variable speed?

Fixed speed
115/220v
rpm 1700 - I would not use a 3400 rpm with that large drive wheel
13 amps or less on 115 volts
Frame 56C
TEFC

Have you tried a motor shop ?
Have you figured out whey this one stopped ?
Cord, switch, loose wieres, bad capacater - are common causes

Yeah, the amps, at 13, is the deal...can't find one with that high of amperage anywhere. My electric motor supplier tells me that's what makes it "proprietary" , and that its just extra wiring inside.

I see one motor that might be close on eBay....horse and a half with 12.4 amps. Looks like it would be a perfect fit to me...but I'm not an electrician by any means.

This one burned up on me because I ran it hard, really hard, for about 45 minutes. It overheated and shut down. Yes, it's thermally protected, and the motor shop bypassed the thermal protection and got it running again. I was warned to run it very easy from now on until I can replace it. Currently, I can bog it down with no problems, so I'm babying it for now, knowing I need to replace it asap.

Direct replacement, you would need to wire your own switch.

3 phase replacement. Would require a VFD. 115v in, 230 out.

What's the difference in the Leeson motor at $189 and the Baldor...around $600 for the same motor? There has to be a difference...I'm ignorant about this technical stuff as it relates to motors.

Nothing wrong with that - as good as you had.

If you can burn out a motor by loading it, consider a 2 HP motor, but that would be best hooked up on 220v.

The difference is I'm showing you a comparable motor from a place that buys new old stock (NOS) motors from factories, companies, resellers that have gone out of business or obsoleted current stock for pennies on the dollar, and are selling them to people like us who don't want to pay $600 for a motor because Baldor made an agreement with Wilton that only Wilton could supply the exact Baldor part number for their grinder and they could mark it up 200%.

It's why I can't buy a rebuild kit for my little Yanmar diesel from Yanmar, I have to buy it from John Deere, and believe me, Yanmar makes the parts, and they're the same parts that go into a Yanmar branded tractor (other than bore size), but they cost 2x as much from John Deere.

With the 15 amp circuit, you will have enough juice to run the 1.5hp motor through a KBAC-27 to have a variable speed option.
Just make sure you go with a 1725 rpm so you get the most torque from the motor.

I like the selection and prices that Electric Motor Wholesale and if it can't be found there, check out automation direct or even global industrial.
