All of a sudden, the right one started to sound like the was rocks in there as soon as I put any side load on it. Switched them around and now it runs just fine since there is no load on the left one. There was some grease on the outside of the bearing.
Don't get me wrong, these are only 10$ each from Beaumont (60$ around here :() It's just that I had the KMG for roughly 3 years now and you all know by the number of knives I make that I don't grind that much. Just curious since I never read anything about this before.

Patrice,

You must have gotten one from a bad run. My old KMG is from 2001, the only bearing thats been replaced was on the small wheels.

When you say flange bearings, you mean the ones on the pulley shaft ?

Princess auto & TSC sells those flanged bearings for $15 ish
(but it looks like there isn't one in Quebec)

You don't have to change the whole flange, you can just change the bearing.

Try
Canadian Bearing
Motion Canada
Fastenal

USA or Japan bearings can be pricey, but they all sell the China ones too.

That bearing should be $3 or so,

What were you doing when you encountered side load on the pulley shaft ?
Radial ball bearings aren't meant to handle side load.
