Ever hand someone a knife and immediately regret your choice?

its not just knives , ive had people ask to see my carry gun , i just laugh , i did one time mess with my buddy when i started carryng a Glock 43 he asked to see it , i wiped it off and handed it to him , he took it with a puzzled look on his face , when handed it back i used a napkin to take it from him and said "good , i needed a new drop piece" , everyone busted up , he says no no no let me have it back

Back when I was in the scouts, I was working at someone's Eagle project and one the dads asked to borrow my knife (since everyone knew I always had a sharp knife on me). I handed mine over without a second thought, then watched as this grown man used it to cut long strips of painters tape. Against the ground. In a concrete parking lot. He practically ground 1/8th of the tip away before I could intervene. It was just a CRKT M16, but it was my favorite knife at the time.

I don't make that mistake anymore.

The first question out of my mouth if someone asks to borrow my knife is “What do you want it for?”. Then if they want something cut, I’ll offer to do it for them if it’s something that won’t damage my blade. I’m not handing anybody my knife unless I know them very well and know for certain they are capable and responsible.

Yeah, that brings back memories ... One time at work (mailman) I delivered a package to a hunter, and knowing he was into knives I showed him my (then new) Manix 2XL. He asked to borrow it to open the package to check the contents. And open it he did. Against the concrete floor. That was about two years ago, since then I'm firmly in the camp of "What do you need cut?"

Was at a bday party and a lady asked if anyone had a knife. I usually dont let people borrow my knives because they are very sharp. So I asked, what can I cut for you? She said, "I need to remove this screw" I politely said no and she looked at me like i was the crazy one. I was carrying a Microtech troodon...
That would have made short work of a screw. Just chop it right out.

I had a Friend who I used to sharpen knives for when he’d visit. A few times it would be a little more effort than usual because of lending knives. The last time he handed me a once beautiful Microtech if I recall correctly. I told him this is the last one. Knife was ruined because he lent it out to an idiot who thought concrete was a suitable cutting board. I told my Friend to watch my technique for sharpening so he could do it himself. I also strongly recommended if he couldn’t stop the loaning, to at least carry a cheaper blade he could lend without emotional distress. Personally if I’m asked for my knife, I either do the cutting myself or say no.

How did the Microtech do at cutting concrete? 😉

Yup, several times. I've had three dropped on the floor. Most commonly it's the strong wrist flick type of fellow. As if lockbars are invincible.

Once I handed a guy a brand new Rockstead to slice open the plastic on a case of water bottles, immediately after I gave him a detailed explanation of what it was. He lost his mind and started slashing and stabbing bottles like Ted Bundy on meth. I'd known the guy for thirty years and that's precisely the moment I un-knew him. lol

The report to me was “At first it cut great but it was simply tearing the cardboard by the end.” The edge looked like it had been dragged behind a car at a good speed. I had to remove a few years worth of blade to return it to sharp. Don’t loan out your nice stuff!!!

I'll loan any of my knives to my wife.
My wife doesn’t say a word about anything I buy. She’s amazing. I’ve gotten her a few knives. She’s native, so I got her a small knife maker neck knife. But she also has a Microtech auto, a glow rhino, and a rivery box cutter.

She has no interest in mine, other than she looks and says the count, today was 34 since I started. One thing my wife knows how to do is count unfortunately o_O

But thankfully she can’t add up totals!🤣
