Ever Have a Knife CONFISCATED?

I once entered a county courthouse. I didn't know there was a metal detector at the entrance, but placed my knife, wallet, change, and keys in the cup. The deputies at the detector asked me if I had a car outside, to please take the knife back out and put it in my car as that would be much less hassle for all of us. So I did.

I once got strip searched at the Tijuana border and had a 5-inch Italian switchblade confiscated that I was innocently transporting in my Jockey shorts. Not only did they confiscate it, they fined me $10.00 on the spot. My 2 friends weren't all that sympathetic, they got strip searched too.

I walked right through a metal detector at the airport with a brand new Benchmade balisong. The cops took the knife and my name and told me it was up to the DA to file charges against me. Nothing ever became of it - it was 1988.

More recently, on two separate occasions I've walked through the metal detector at the airport with Spyderco Ladybugs attached to my keys. I had to give them up to TSA agents or face missing my flight. I guess I never learn...

I remember the good old days of "just make sure it's unloaded, and give it to the stewardess when you get on the plane" :-(

Last week I lost another Adventurer SAK at the airport (2 in a month is a new family record). Usually I try and throw one of my older Adventurers in my suitcase for use on a trip. I use an old one in case I forget to put it back in my suitcase for the return flight. My wife got my semi-old one confiscated around the beginning of this month and I lost my newest one last week. Now I'm down to carrying my scuzzy really old one.

I don't think I'll find one for a reasonable price here in Colorado Springs. I'll have to check with Sportsman's Warehouse. Could be I'm going back to the internet. I should buy these things by the case. I'll probably buy two to divide the shipping costs.

Personally I think it's disgusting that there are people profiting from these airlines taking away people's knives.I know they should know better than to try & bring them aboard, but if they're going to profit off of your hard earned steel, the least they could do is offer you 25-30% of the cost of the knife. If not,it should be thrown in a grinder right in front of you.I'd rather my knife be ground into dust, than see it on ebay the next day.I'll never have to worry about that anyway, cause I don't fly.

I had a CRKT Kasper almost confiscated by a rent-a-cop. I was opening a package at the mall, like stated before and he tried to take it from me, stating that Texas state law does not allow for a knife that can be opened by flipping your wrist (loose screw.) He was correct, but I pulled my DPS card and told him he would have hell finding another job if he took my blade. Idle threat, but it worked. I wasn't about to give up my favorite blade to some out of shape goob.

I had a similar experience plus one even more interesting. When I was much younger, the deputy working the metal detector took my switchblade out of the bowl and said he'd hang onto it for me. Then he gave it back to me when I left. Walton county was fun. :p

I once had an Emerson CQC7 confiscated by a cop in Flint, MI. I was very obviously drunk and making an ass of myself so he snagged it and threw me in the back of the cruiser for about a half hour then let me walk home. I never bothered to ask for it back because I figured I had it coming and he might just decide to write me a ticket. I ended up buying a brand new waved CQC7.

Last summer I was walking a little too close to the railroad tracks with a couple of buddies and a cop stopped us. He took all of our knives and checked our ID's. Told us not to get on the tracks since it was trespassing then gave us our knives back and told us to have a nice day. He even commented on my Benchmade saying, "Huh, a Benchmade. Nice knives. That's what I carry". He probably hadn't even heard of Emerson, which is what both of my buddies were carrying.

The Minnesota police have my Case 5265 I carried in Nam due to an incident in a bar in Minneapolis. They told me later I could get it back since no charges were filed. I let it go I was just glad not be in jail.
