Hi guys,

Have you ever known anyone in your life who carried only one knife for years, or perhaps even all the time you've known them?

When I was younger my dad carried just one Case for as long as I could remember, but he added a few more and would put them in EDC rotation... Not quite the same as only carrying one, but still.

My grandfather had more than one, but I only ever saw one in particular, when he had to use it, must have been a favorite of his.

My father carried a little buck stockman, unless he was hunting. Then he would also carry either a 110 or more often a Golden Spike.

Not that I know of. I actually kind of wish I was that guy, but I can't seem to do it. I like the idea though. My dad was pretty close. He carried a puma duke for a long time, plus a small sak.
Now he carries the sak, duke in his truck, and perhaps something else like an elk ridge stock man.

I used to back when I couldn't afford to own a variety. Had a buck 501 for years then a buck 186 after that. Now, all over the place, more knives than days of the week.

I sort of wish I was that guy too.... it would be interesting... but there's just so much variety. I think when my grandfather was a young man, and certainly when my great-grandfather was, it just wasn't that big a deal. One nice, functional knife if cared for and not lost was all you really figured you needed (maybe a stout hunting knife as well). I'm not sure the idea of amassing a collection really occurred to them.

I carried a Tenacious every day until lockup was at 100% and beat the hell out of it every day. Still locks up tight, but decided to retire it to the ol' cigar box. Now, I carry a Mini Ritter everyday unless I need a fixed blade, but the Ritter is usually in my pocket at the same time.

I'm this was with a lot of my stuff, though. I get something that I love and I use it until it's worn out or has a hole. Wanna see pics of my flip-flops and underwear? ;)

I'm The Knife Guy in my circle of friends, so lots of them just carry the one knife I gave them - Blur, Drifter, Mini Grip, RAM, Flash, etc.

I've carried the same folder for the past six years (Bradley Alias). I have other brands of folders (Benchmade, Al Mar, Spyderco, Buck) but the Alias is one of my favorites and at $300 my most expensive, so I want to be sure to get my money's worth out of it. Aside from my Al Mar SERE and a Buck 110 I've had for over thirty years, I'm not really all that fond of my other folders.

I've also been carrying the same Fixed-blade for the past six years (Wilson model 25). It cost me a little more than $300 so I want to get my money's worth out of it as well. I own several other brands of fixed-blades (Entrek, Al Mar, Kabar, etc) but I feel the Wilson serves my needs the best out of all of them.

I haven't bought any new knives over the past six years. Little things like providing my family with food, shelter, heat, clothes, medical insurance, etc, etc, are more important to me than buying knives I really don't need just to have new ones.

I'd buy more knives if I could afford it, but fortunately for me I'm not addicted to buying new knives. The knives I already have serve me well enough, and I don't feel ill-equipped carrying the same ones every day.

And as long as I don't lose either of them, I expect to be carrying the same two knives for many years to come. And that's just fine with me. :)

like most young men in the late 60s a buck 110 was my dayly companion. it got used hard every day and never failed me.i had that knife on me for 15 years untill i moved to switzerland where it stuck out like a sore thumb.so i replaced it with a buck 501.nowadays a benchmade sequel rides with me, in my pocket not cliped to it.i have a lot(more than i would care to count)of pocket knifes but only a few that see any pocket time. i have a friend back home who has carried his opinel #8 for all of the 35 years i have known him he uses a knife more than most in his lifestyle.

My father carried a buck 110 for years until they broke. My mother bought him a rams horn one for his birthday back in the 80's.
He beat the hell out of out also.

I'd like to see the wear on the Alias and 25. Anyway you could post a pic? :)

The longest I have carryed the same knife is about 2 years I always find a new one I like and is a upgrade. and my old one gets added to my ever growing collection. the knives I have carried mean the most to me not because they are the nicest or the most expensive but because of the memories they bring back of time and places in my life when that knife was with me and the places it has been with me.
I still have the very first knife I owned a knife my dad gave me when I was a kid.
The last knife I carried a while a BM 580 barrage I am giving to my dad for fathers day as I upgrade to the 581 barrage.

A good knife is like your best friend its always there for you when you need it and if you take care of of it it will always take care of you..:)
I know this might seem a little sentimental but hey what can you say' think about it next time use your knife.;)
Or the feeling you get when you need it and its not in your pockets an you cant remember what you last did with it.:(

I always carry two knives a neck knife and a folder I have been through several neck knives but the last and current one a bark river psk 154cm has by far been my favorite one and might be with me a long time, just ask me in 10 years or so and I'll let you know for sure;)

Not so much a carry, but whenever work needed doing, my father used a Puma hunters pal. Probably older than I am.
Castrating calves, filleting fish, that was the knife. He owned a Puma bowie the whole time, but almost never used it.
Now, at his venerable age, both knives are sharp & in his kitchen drawer.

That'd be me! Have contentedly carried a SAK Spartan in my pocket since 1965. I keep a sharp belt knife in the glovebox because the SAK has proved meager for efficiently dressing-out road-killed deer but other than that I love the utility of that knife and have no intention of wandering around with a hardware store, or pile of flavour-of-the-month blades, in my pocket.

My dad and grandfathers each carried only one knife. How long depended, I suppose, on how long until they lost it, if they lost it. Here's the last one my Mom's dad carried. He died in 1964.

I carried only this knife for more than ten years until less than a year ago.
