Ever lose a knife from a slip fit sheath?

I just got a Mora a few days ago. Today a friend called and asked if I wanted to go for a hike. So it seemed perfect to grab and take with me. It feels quite secure but I'm just afraid it will fall out while it's bumping, banging, getting snagged on trees and whatever else. I found myself feeling the need to touch it just to make sure it was still there. All the other fixed blades I take out have snaps that I feel lock them into place better.

Am I just being insane?

They fit in deep enough that they would have to fall straight up to come out of the sheath if you're wearing it vertically on your belt. I don't think it'll fall out, but if your worried you can add a paracord loop with a cord lock or slip knot to help secure it.

No you aren't insane. I have one Mora that the knife is a bit loose in the plastic sheath. Heated it up a bit and made it tight. I doubt you will loose one under normal circumstances. But any belt knife can get snagged on something and get pulled out. BUT it's a Mora, don't worry about it unless your life depends on it!

I just turned it upside down and shook it as hard as I could for about 30 seconds. It didn't budge at all. But if you move it back and forth like hitting branches would do it loosens up a little.

I wear it vertically but sometimes find myself off the trail in all kinds of odd positions trying to penetrate through mountain laurels so thick sometimes you can barely see the Sun. That might be a slight exaggeration. They can be very dense though.

Yeah I know it's only a Mora but I like it. Even though it wasn't expensive by any means I wouldn't want to lose it just yet.

In my opinion, you should be always checking gear to make sure nothing has been snagged off or dropped. Especially your safety gear. If you are not needing it in a hurry, then just pack it in the top of your pack, simple fix. So having a bit of paranoia about dropping something is not really a bad thing. (mora sheaths are pretty tough to drop out of as well, so that helps) You can also add some friction with a ranger band, either wrapping it over both the mouth of the sheath and handle, or as a shim between the handle and sheath, although that might cause the rubber to push the knife back up.
