Ever lose a knife?

I've lost many, most as a kid like others here. The one that still makes me mad to this day was a little Old Timer stockman my brother gave me for my birthday. I was in Advanced Training for my MOS in Texas and we had a big barracks inspection. Some numbnuts wasn't even dressed when they came to his room, so we all got rolled in the dirt. That knife and a little SAK (the expensive one with an LED light and a pen in it) fell out of my pocket along with my change. Some blue falcon (military folks should get that reference, for the rest of you; the first work stands for 'buddy' and the other should be easy to figure out) walked off with both of them. The worst part was that my room was actually clean! I wasn't responsible for a change.

The first decent knife I bought, a CRKT Rollock, had a Photon Microlight attached. Great combo, was gutted when I was unable to find it... I bought another Rollock within 2 weeks cos I missed it so much.

I thought that I had lost my Sebenza once!!! I later found it in my future brother in laws couch. Thank you God!!!

Just recently lost my beloved CRKT Large Mirage folder that I use for EDC.....thankfully I found it 3 days later lying in the driveway in the pouring rain. 3 cheers for 440 stainless!!!!

Yeah I know, not a real expensive knife, but damn I love this blade!

Yeah, I lost a Boker Michael Walker in Egypt September 2001. I hope who ever found it likes it – it was a good knife. The worst thing besides loosing the knife was that I couldn’t get a descent replacement for the duration of my stay.

I've lost three.

First was a Puma Hunter's Pal that belonged to my father. Lost it in a field walking the dog when I was fifteen. Gave my dad a replacement one when I was 21 because I knew how much he liked that knife.

Second was a SAK Tinker that fell out of my shorts during a river rafting trip on the Ottawa River in 1987. I have all my river knives on lanyards now.

Third was an original Gerber Mark 2 that was stolen from my truck two years ago. Replaced that one with a Busse SH-E that now lives in my BOB.

The closest I have come to loosing a knife was also one of the most expensive knives I have ever purchased ($710)

The day I got this knife, I had a glow all over me. I was SOOO happy I couldn't take it. It went straight into my pocket. Most of the day I was just hanging around the house, with one quick trip to UPS to pick up another knife that I missed delivery on that day and then back home. It was getting close to bed time and I went to empty my pockets and get ready to get a shower when it hit me  WHERE IS MY KNIFE??

After several trips back and forth to EVERYWHERE I have been that day with a flashlight, first in the car, then on my mountain bike, then on foot I came up with nothing:( Thats about the closest I ever came to crying as an adult. Then, as a last ditch effort I checked around the dumpster after the wife reminded me I took out the trash earlier and sure enough, she was right there.

I was ready to run an ad in the paper, print out flyers and everything else as I could just see some kid picking it up and throwing it at trees

I had a multi tool by Schrade that was stolen when my car was serviced at a dealership. The theif left the empty sheathe behind.

However I raided cain and the dealership paid me for it.

Another time I had a knife stolen from my apartment by a repairman. I do not permit repairmen in here now unless I am present.

Only 1, a Spyderco/Viele, all the rest I've found.

If ya don't stop lookin' it never is really lost, just misplaced.

Now misplaced knives, I've got a few.

First post-seemed appropriate.

Lost my Benchmade 921 Switchback. Stolen out of my car along with another knife and my stereo faceplate. It was out of sight in my center console it just happened that's what they went for in the smash and grab. They probably have no idea what they got. I gotta laugh when I think of how they'll never find anyone who wants a Kenwood minidisc faceplate.

Was my most expensive knife (paid around $150) and also was my EDC because of the big blade/small blade design. Just happened I took it off to go to class (they frown upon knives at universities as you know) and for once I forgot to bring it in with me.

It's now replaced with a limited edition silver handle black blade version of the 921 from newgraham that I got actually for less money and it looks great like that. Life goes on.

I haven't lost a knife in over 10 years, knock on wood. Until this year. Both were Cold Steel folders. The first was this summer, and the 2nd was just last week.

Spyderco Standard model. G10 handle, serrated blade. Fell out of my pocket at a football game a couple of months ago. I didn't realize until after I lost it it was somewhat of a collectors item and I couldn't afford another one, so I got a Delica II. The good thing about loosing it was, I was looking at knives on the internet, trying to decide what to buy to take its place, and I found this message board.

I lost my grandfathers jack knife three days after it was given to me by my granmother (after his funeral) in 1973. My wife says thats whats wrong with me now, still looking for that knife!!

A SS Police Model lost at my old job, someone found it.It still breaks my heart,so I bought another one.:)

Hey Bad Guy, was that the large Seb with the Celtic knot? That's a beauty of a knife!:D I lost my first expensive knife that my girlfriend bought for me in 1980. It was a Paul Knife that sold for the outrageous sum of $89. But that's a lot of money when you are making $1.25/hour. Things didn't work out, we broke up and I was making out with another girl when I lost it. Darn I wish I still had that knife!:( :( :p

I've lost two (that I remember) and found them both. I undoubtedly have lost others over the years, but none since I became interested in good knives.

The first was a Schrade stockman that I bought in high school in 1977. I edc'd it for years and was quite attached to it. While fishing, the knife got knocked into the deep water of a large lake. A couple of years later, I got trained in SCUBA and was diving in that lake in the area I lost the knife. I remembered losing it, and started searching near the dock where I lost it. I found it! The open blade had a thick, crusty coating of rust that easily broke away. The blades are now black and have funny etch marks that make them almost look like damascus.

The second knife lost was a Benchmade Mini-AFCK that was my edc and all-time favorite knife for a long time. It was missing after returning from a fishing trip. I searched everywhere in my boat and truck to no avail. I finally returned to the boat launch late that night with a flashlight. I had no expectations of finding the knife buy just HAD to look. I found it!

The same Mini-AFCK came up missing after an afternoon at the skeet range. I looked everywhere and wrote it off as "lost." The following week when I was getting ready to head to the skeet range, I found it hanging in the mesh on the back of my skeet vest. The body of the vest is open mesh and it had snagged the Mini-AFCK's pocket clip and pulled it out of my pocket when I took the vest off.

It's an awful feeling when you reach for your knife and it's not there....

Take it easy,
Bob Scott
