Ever not loan your knife?

Knives are like guns and books, don't loan them and don't give them back.
I only lend to a few friends, not even to my family ever since my sister borrowed a Swiss Army Knife to peel an orange and LOST it.
If she wants a knife she has to buy one herself. I'll help her chose, but I won't giver her mine.

I've gotten some good laughs by handing a novice a liner or frame lock and telling them that it's an IQ test, the test is how quickly you can figure out how to close it.

In Sweden it is considered bad luck to lend your knife to someone.
The times I have broken against this it has proven it is true.
Either they cut themselves looking surprised this thing was sharp or they do something really disgusting to my knife that requires hours of cleaning or sharpening or both.
It is also considered bad luck to give a knife away, you have to charge something.

I don't let anyone touch my quality and/or EDC knives, period. I just say 'No. I don't let anyone touch my knives, nothing personal'. It doesn't matter who they are or what they'll be using it for. If they brightened up they'd get their own. It happened every day at my last two jobs, and it bothers me quite a bit that the people that ask why I never go anywhere without one are the people that are asking to use them.

But it's different with all the useless crap I bought before I found bladeforums, alot of the kids from the developement like to come and either look at and hold the big stuff or play with certain balisongs / butterfly knives that I've blunted and dulled (did it so they could play with em). But even then they aren't allowed to touch anything or even be near them unless I'm standing right there watching, mainly because alot of em are underage and I don't want any stupid activity by them on me.

I too get irritated by people who ask to borrow a knife or multi-tool and refuse to carry their own:(. I never let the knife or tool leave my sight. I like the idea of carrying a POS to loan out but I carry enough stuff on me already.;)

I will only loan my knife to someone that has proven to me that they can be trusted with my good tools. I am the same way with my other tools at work. Tools are my living and knives are the tool that I happen to also have a great love for, but it is a tool for me and no one uses my tools unless they can be trusted!!!
As an aside- I have converted maybe over a dozen people at work to the world of knife carrying on their own. Some of them have even gotten into higher quality knives now. Some of them even have Nice knives and Beaters for work!:D ;) It is nice to know I have had a small effect for the better to a tiny dagree.

I usually loan a sak/multi to aquaintances, or a good knife to trusted friends. I honestly don't mind if they don't wipe the blood off it when they hand it back. There's always water and a rag in the truck, as well as band-aids.

I learned in High School that your knife, if returned, would likely be broken if you let anybody handle it. People are such idiots. This is why I don't ever lend my knife out.

I stopped after I bought an Edge-Pro. I never liked the way people handled my knives, or any of my possessions for that matter; but the so-called 'experts' always cut themselves. I carried a small plastic box of bandages just for those occassions.

Finally I realized that I bought high-end knives for MY use, not theirs.

I don't loan out knives to anyone anymore.
