Ever put a knife through the wash?

I'd be much more worried about it opening up mid cycle and tearing up your clothes. Depending on the knife, it'd be a lot more expensive to replace some of my nicer clothes.

I forgot my Spyderco PM2 with black DLC coating in my shorts once and put in the washer. Came out clean with no lint inside the handle and the G10 felt grippy..

Sounds like I could start up a knife washing business lol, no more taking apart folders to get lint out, straight in the washing machine you go!;)

You guys don't throw your Reeves, Graymans, Emersons, Hinderers, etc. in a pocket now and then and wash them in the machine? I thought everyone did.

I wouldn't do it in a dishwasher though. Maybe top rack....

Yeah, SAKs too....

I'll never forget, when I was 10 and in cub scouts our den leader (I think that's what he was called) bought everyone in the troop a generic cheapo brand SAK for our upcoming camping trip. After the trip my mom took all my dirty camp fire smell clothes and washed them. When she pulled them out of the dryer the cheap knife was in a bunch of pieces. I went to my dad, I think I had tears in my eyes, and said, "dad, can u fix it?" I'll never forget the look on his face as he said to me, "no son, that's why you always buy a real victorinox." One of those life lessons I'll always remember.

my Yojimbo got put in the wash and the dryer. it opened up in the dryer and actually wedged against the wall and stopped the dryer. knife was file though no damage.

Just took my frn dragonfly out the dryer. Looks great! Btw, Can a dryer mess up a heat treat?

No where near hot enough for that. You're clothes would ignite well before that. Typically 400 degrees F is the point when HTs get F'd up, some would argue 300 to be safe. The only way possible would be if it somehow bounced its way toward the heating element, but the machines are designed so that that cannot happen.

I've had a few micarta and CF scaled knives go through without issue. I did have a little CF piece of boat hardware take a bad hit and break when washed with my work clothes after a regatta, but it was under 1/16" thick and I had my work boots in there too...yeah, my parents washing machine was happy when I moved out.

Oh and don't leave higonokamis in your pockets though, the little tang extension makes them really easy to open up and I've lost three pairs of pants to that...

Left a SAK Classic in the fifth pocket of my jeans once. Just came out clean. Cellidor scales didn't warp at all.

I wouldn't worry a bit about a knife, even my iPhone 4 went through a wash cycle and a few minutes in the dryer and was fine after a couple of days, a knife will only get clean.

I am worried about the scales, s30v is real tough, so thats the least of my concerns. I imagine the carbon fiber would get all screwed up but idk. The heat of the dryer is hot enough to warp plastic, would resin based material be ok? 175 is the max heat farenheit it would get, and I imagine that would mess up the scales and possibley screw with the heat treat

175 is not going to damage the heat treat at all. If you were up over 300-350, then you might have some concerns, but you're find.

In regards to the resin based carbon fiber... you should be fine there too.

Post a pic when it comes out!
