Seems timely to ask, now that I've got some for sale, but has this happened to you? Is the only cure to buy another to erase the memory? Or, like me, have you sold one and regretted it ever since? (I cannot speak its name

No, but I've bought a few I wish I hadn't, and regretted not havng the money to spend on other knives that came along...

Not yet. I have never sold a knife. But I am afraid that day is coming. I expect it to be a very painful experience. I only buy knives I love. I don't buy them as investments, or just to play with them for a short while. The amount of buying, selling, and trading some guys seem to do in the trading forums just amazes me.

But I have Lots of money tied up in knives, and am starting to seriously consider selling some of my earlier purchases to upgrade my collection. But I intend to avoid that day for as long as I can.

Uhhh, yes! However, most of the time I sell a knife, it's to raise cash to get an even better knife. :) Right now I'm selling some things in order to finance some knifemaking equipment, so although I hate to give some of my pieces up, it should be worth it in the long run. Besides, there are SO MANY knives out there that I'd love to own. I'll never run out of knives on my "want to buy" list.

Yes,actually a few,one that still is fresh in my memory is my custom Erickson butterfly knife I sold to a fellow formite here.I kick myself almost daily. Also a custom made broadsword by Jim Hrisoulas I was stupid enough to trade for some MT's.Chow,Ralph

Yup!! i started making knives this summer and wish i kept the first 2 i sold! They were cool knives and looked good considering they were numbers 4 and 5!

It happened to me once and once is too much.

I sold a Battle Mistress and then asked if I could buy it back. The new owner refused. Couldn't blame him though. It's a great knife. At least I got a good feeling knowing that the new owner really wanted one and I was able to provide it for him.

DOes losing a knife you wished you hadnt count?
Crap.. Ive done that about ten times now. At least you guys got some money for yours...

Ohh man...I sold 2 Pacific Cutlery custom balisongs to a custom knife shop down in Carmel, California.

These were the biggies....5 inch blades ground by Jody Samson. One a wee-hawk with burgundy micarta handles, the other a wee-hawk tanto with stainless skeleton handles.

I still cannot believe it......

Sold the first two knives I ever bought -- a Camillus lockback and a Western boot knife -- and later wished long and hard that I hadn't, for sentimental value if not for anything else.

And tomorrow when you wake up it will be worse.

I've traded away or sold probably 15-20 knives so far. Mostly production stuff, but I wish I had them all back. Especially the CS SRK, some early Blackjacks, a couple of case fixed blades and a Buck General. I'm getting a little misty thinking about it -- talk amongst yourselves...

Yes I have but it was for the best. Besides I'll buy it back in the future. BWAHAHA!

Two come to mind:

A Buck Frontiersman that I "re-worked" a little. (Thinned-down the handle, deepened the finger-grooves).

A Puma White Hunter,, the "old-style", stag handle. (I had this one 25-27 years ago, and wish I still did.).

My own frenzied selling came about as I've only been collecting for a year and didn't have a clear idea of what I really wanted. The process of buying and selling became so familiar that sometimes I forgot the angst involed in acquiring a certain knife in the first place...(singing)
"regrets, I've have a few..."

I'm with Paracelsus, on this one. I've given knives to friends and relatives, but never sold one.

Nope!

I have been using/buying/collecting knives for over 40 years now and have never sold or traded one away. Had a small Buck pocket knife stolen from me many years ago...don't even remember what model it was, one of the small black ones.

I smile when I read a post by someone who has just pruchased his/her first or second knife. Heck, I used to carry that many to school every day in the second or third grade...the times, they are a changing.

Maybe if we get hungry (really hungry) I'll sell some.
