Ever sold a knife, only later wish you hadn't?

I'm a relative youngster around these parts, but even in my short experience with production knives, I've sold a few knives and later regretted it. Sometimes after a couple of months I've bought the same knife again because I found out I missed it. I've only had one that I couldn't replace - been kickin' myself ever since and saying "What were you thinking?"

Now, with new production knives, most of the time this isn't really a problem - if ya wish you hadn't sold, just turn around and buy another one. But I'm guessing there may be a fair number of you who have sold either a custom knife or an older, irreplaceable type of knife - and later wished you hadn't.

So, have you ever done this? Current production or custom or vintage knife?

This is a pretty dark alley for me:(

I'd be interested to hear which knives you guys regret offloading.

Mine I sold for cash in college for a steal. 2 Microtech Socom Elites 1 of them was an auto, sweet knives. Another was a Camillus CUDA dominator which are impossible to find now. There were various other ones including my SMF DGG and my Hinderer XM-18. I find it hard to justify owning really nice folders but damn I miss those.

Nowadays,it is kindof important to me,that the person getting a knife off me really appreciates & wants it.I've had a few,"hounded " off me,only to be resold,in a shorter time, than I myself owned it.
Thanks to BladeForums & it's members though, you can experience more, than you could afford to buy & keep,by parting with some,as you go.

I traded a Samual Barlow single razor bladed small barlow for a custom skinner. I regret that the most. The second most regretable was a custom damascus boot knife with a Persian blade and desert ironwood handle. It was a collaboration between two makers. There have been a multitude of knives that come in and go out. Sometimes you want something more at the time.

Would the person to whom I sold the original Sandbar Bowie for $8 please call me back? ;):D:eek::confused:

A hearty yes to every one I have sold. Even a few I have given away. :D

i generally don't sell my knives but i have traded for a few. i do have more than a few that i don't like but i still keep them around. most are not very expensive or desirable anyway. i have some that i would never consider selling... or even use.

the one knife i did sell was a well used SAK tinker to a friend who really needed an EDC. it's taboo for me to gift a knife so we dug around in his truck and came up with a quarter. i'm glad to say we are still great friends and he uses it to this day. i do not regret 'selling' that knife.

of coarse it gave me a good excuse to buy another knife as if i needed one to begin with.

I've gifted and sold off a lot of knives, but only a couple I later wanted again but found out they had been discontinued or such. Maybe two knives.

Carl.

I've only had three that I sold that I regretted. I sold off a Winchester sowbelly stockman, Case sowbelly stockman and a lovely Schatt & Morgan sowbelly stockman within a year of each other. Got really good money for all three but I felt like a three time loser afterwards. One of these days I will get me a sowbelly again.:(

I've had this issue with the Benchmade Dejavoo. I've owned 3 full sized and a Mini. Don't currently own one. It comes down to the fact that I love just about everything about the knife, but I don't want to have $110 wrapped up in a tool that doesn't work much better than one half the price.

I guess I haven't sold any. At least I don't remember doing so if I did. I have given away a number of knives over the years, but none that have caused me any angst. I don't think I'll ever give away or sell my Mutz canoe or maybe a few others I have, but you don't ever know what the situation might be down the road.

Like I said I've given a few away or traded a good one for a bad one, but didn't expect to get a better one in the deal(s) anyway. I love a good knife, heaven knows I've got quite a few. Not hundreds or thousands, but several dozen. But, then I haven't paid over $200 for any of them.

Anybody ever "drop knives" with a friend or co-worker?

Ed

Oh absolutely. My biggest problem is letting some go as cheap as I did. Especially when I knew I could have gotten more. Must have just been feeling generous.

Sold, traded, lost.....yeah some with regret, but it always gave me a reason to get the one I was fancying at the time:rolleyes:

Just traded a Spyderco Phoenix with G10 scales as well as the white micarta ones.

Miss it already but I got a Leafstorm for it which I actually want to use.

Due to my financial situation, I'm going to be there soon.

Planning on selling my 2 CRK knives and a few others...

To stave off the emotional pain, I plan on getting a Case blue sway back jack as a get well soon present to myself.
