I recently traded for a NIB knife. At least I was told it was NIB. Now that I have it here, I see that it is obviously well used. I am pissed. I'll be contacting the guy who sent this to me shortly. What I want to know is has this ever happened to you, and what did you do about it?

i have never gotten used when the knife was advertised/described as nib....more often my experience on these forums is that the knives are in better condition than advertised/described.....if the knife is not to your liking ask for a refund of the price of the knife but you may have to eat the shipping cost.....feverdoc

I have Holden, e-mail me, maybe we both had the same knife. I sent it back and got a refund. NIB doesn't include a plethora of pocket lint in the blade channel, and scratches on the clip and blade. If it does, I've been wrong all of these years. Darn!

This is why when you trade you need to agree beforehand that the deal isnt complete until both sides say they're happy. It avoids alot of trouble.

That has been my experience as well. I have traded 20-30 different knives on this forum and I have only received one knife that was misrepresented by the other "guy". I was upset at first, emailed him and let him know how I felt. Kept the knife and chalked it up as a learning experience (won't ever trade with the guy again). Luckily it was a production knife and not an expensive custom (or I probably would have persuded it further). I still hate to hear these bad apple stories...most of the guys here are great to deal with.

When I questioned the other party I got "It was new to me". I haven't done much sight unseen trading since.

Bought a Colibri Lighter off Ebay NIB. Came with no box, and looked like the guy had kept it on his keychain for a couple of weeks. My buying on Ebay has ceased since then. Just a bunch of con artists.

Yeah, once.

One guy on the forums sold me a "like new" custom. Turned out his "like new" meant rusty screws and a loosened pivot. Thankfully the maker agreed to fix it up at no charge (except for hefty shipping fees both ways across the pacific). I may have been at fault for being too trusting and not clarifying the exact condition of the knife. I am loads more careful now unless I am dealing with forumites am familiar with.
