While grinding tonight I got down to 220 grit and things were getting very hot and I was having to dip every pass, so I took a spray bottle with some water in it and misted my belt.

Everything ran much cooler, and was less trouble than dipping.

Other than a mess, and possible rust issues on the grinder.....Any reason to not do this?
I've not seen this anywhere I've learned grinding techniques online.

a few guy have done wet grinding works fine with most belts
thw main issues i see are mess, maybe partally enclosed, and ithink yould go through qgeel bearings quicker

I spray simple green on mine. Runs much cooler and seems to cut much better. Not my idea just passing it on.

some belts like gator belts don't take to water too well (kind of ironic though). Trugrit.com has a great breakdown of most major belts and they specify if able to run wet or dry.

Some of the belts that don't like water go all gummy on you if the backing gets wet.

while talking to supergrit i was told there are 2 kinds of gator belts one wet and one dry

i spray my belts from 120 grit on up but i also dip often anyhow no need to risk overheating the blade (also when belts start to cut less and heat more pitch it and get a new one on there )
