I love my BK14. I carry it everyday, with a pouch attached to the front to hold my Skeletool. Perfect combo for my needs. Not too heavy even with the multitool and not too bulky with a spyderco G clip, but there are times when I wished that the BK14 was a bit longer in the handle, and stainless. I sometimes work in/around saltwater. I stumbled across this video by virtuovice (love that guy) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt91fgYBi7k , which prompted me to buy the Lone Wolf Mountainside Drop Point. Love it. N680, and the blade design is nearly identical to the 14. It's light, made in the USA (it's a Benchmade) and comes with a great sheath, and for around $50 it's a great alternative to the Eskabar if you're looking for something similar that can get all salty. I still edc the Eskabar, but if you love the BK14 you'll enjoy the Lone Wolf as well.

While I see the blade shape as a good "replacement" option, I can't stand the angled handle. It's not for me, even though I've owned many Benchmade knives that I've loved.

However, the Stainless Izula will be another story....

No and No.

is this what you are talking about?

I like the size of the 14, works great..just long enuff for pocket carry + comfort. And I like carbon steel, I dont mind doing a lil maintenance...and I like how carbon patinas and ''ages''.

I wasn't sure I'd like the handle either, but it's not too bad.

Ahh, the stainless Izula. When I told my wife the other day "I promise to stop buying knives" what I meant to say was "I promise to stop buying knives until the stainless Izula comes out."

That's a promise I couldn't make, brother. That stainless Izzy is probably not coming out until November at the absolute earliest. The steel has power over me...

Sounds like a ploy to sell knives....We are all pretty damn happy I'm sure of on the 14.

No ploy, just sharing. If you read my original post, the first thing I do is declare my love for the 14 I carry every day. There are times when I'm on the water in serious salt, and the Lone Wolf looked like a nice corrosion resistant alternative to subjecting my 14 to conditions less than favorable to 1095. Of course I may have previously purchased a few other stainless knives with the same purpose in mind like an Entrek Javalina, a Mora, a couple of cheap Gerbers...ok I guess I bought the lone wolf just because I wanted to buy a new knife. I still think it's interesting that the blades on the two knives are so similar.

If I'm not mistaken, there are alredy plans of a SS 14 in the making. Just font know when they plan on releasing it.

well, there are several stainless beckers over the last 30 years

but if you're going to work in Salt a lot, buy the spydies made for that

or perhaps a CRKT MUK

cuz the Becker offerings right now are ... slim.

i hear rumors of D2, but well, D2 :)

and uh, oh, yeah, need more rum

been that kind of month :)

nice Divtul.
I personally have no desire whatsoever to buy that Lonewolf. It's not the angled handle, steel, blade shape or anything, it's just that I have all of the niches that's good for filled. EDC fixed blade- 14. hunting- 14. Don't need to make it any bigger IMO, and if I need supreme rust resistance I have a Spyderco Salt 1.
I'm perfectly happy with my standard, carbon, plain Jane 14 with izula scales, thanks. :)

I'm fine with the blade shape and size as is and I just carry a BK-11CSM when corrosion resistance is an issue.

If you want a well made small knife made from really hi-grade corrosion resistant stainless steel just do what Ethan did and get a CRK Professional Soldier...I think a small BK&T that costs $200.00 would defeat a large part of the ideas behind BK&T.

Yeah, the 11CSM pretty much covers it I think. And a little off topic, love the avatar there, Mist. Maybe one day mine will include a knife I designed too... ;)

Honestly, there's no reason to go stainless just because you're around salt water unless you just don't take care of your knives. I've been fishing fresh and salt water with the same equipment and lures for years, and as long as I give everything a good cleaning after salt water fishing, I haven't had any issues.

Yes, a high carbon blade used in salt water and left neglected will rust quickly, and thoroughly. I do hope you enjoy the new knife, just realize that even stainless needs cleaning after use in salt water.

It's a knife nut's dream isn't it :D

For the most part I agree. Most of the problems with carbon steel knives and salt water can be cured using a hard sheath that doesn't absorb the salts and water and drying the knife off and letting the sheath dry before storage. Besides Ka-Bar's 1095 CroVan is more corrosion resistant than most other 1095 from what I have seen anyway.

I always take care of my knives, and I know I've really got most every knife need covered with my BK2, my BK16, and my BK14, but who on this forum really thinks that 3 knives is enough? I'm definitely not recommending the lone wolf as a go to knife, or a better knife than any of my Beckers. It's not. It is a handy and easy to carry USA made knife, and the similarity to the BK14 sucked me in. Did I need it? Nope. Did I just want a new knife to add to my meager collection? Guilty as charged.
