Ever wonder what a Ti inlay Mnandi with a stone washed blade might look like ?....

Aye, so did I. :p:thumbup:

This is still being worked on but I'm just not sure where I'm going to go with it. I was thinking about some graphics or texturing but the plain Ti looks pretty good IMO. Even with a dirty, hand sanded 600 finish.

Sorry about the bum pics but they are about the best I can do just now, I'll post some glossy glam shots later on.

Very nice! Sitting next to the Umnum, I think it would look really good with a mini umnum textured pattern covering the full ti scale, and then sandblasted/beadblasted.

When you say Ti inlay what exactly do you mean? Is there a different metal underneath, or is it just Ti on Ti? Sorry for my ignorance, I do not own a Mnandi.

The Mnandi is only available with wood inlays. This knife has had the original wood (ebony) inlay removed and replaced with titanium. I was going to use something else like micarta or carbonfiber but I have been hankering for a full Ti Mnandi for a while. Making a whole new off side and lock side scale is not something I'm going to do so this is the next best option.

I also have to retumble the blade, I took the lazy way out and just tumbled the blade as it was. I now see that I should have sanded it back to 800 at least to hide the original satin finish grind marks. You can see the obvious diffrence in blade finish in the 3rd pic. :foot:

Haze--I sold both of my Mnandi's because I thought the inlays and polished blade were too "delicate". I would buy a Mnandi like yours in a heartbeat.

Oh mamma mia, that is spectacular! A light bead blast would be the bees knees for me!

Thanks, and a big thanks to your tip on stonewashing! I had the same problem, I tried my first stonewash on a cheap knife with a relatively shiny finish and was unhappy with the results even after 2 hours in the dryer.

spectacular indeed, satin inlay and SW blade looks sick! nice work there
wondered fo a while too, to see one is COOL

wonder what Chris says when he sees it!

Surface preperation is what it's all about, there really is no corners to cut of you want a good finish. This knife is some what of an experiment any way so I thought I would just give it a shot. It still looks OK but you can clearly see the original finish at particular angles.

Looks great Haze. The flat surface does lend itself to a nice pattern though.

That looks amazing. How did you remove the ebony wood? How difficult was it to remove? CR says the VHB tape will hold the inlay pretty much forever. Just wondering how much fight it gave you? Similar to epoxy? Stronger?
