Everglades day trip, post Peru

Even more great pics Joe. Dude, we need to plan that trip we've been talking about. Mod's on the prowl!

Great pics Joe. South Florida is like a different part of the world compared to the rest of the US...Man, sometimes I really miss living in Key Largo.

Execellent pictures! My wife and I have spent many vacations in Flamingo and the Everglades NP and it is an AWESOME place, a real wilderness experience that many are not aware of.

Just wondering.... what is the status of the Lodge in Flamingo? Has it reopened?

I think you're correct. It's hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like the snout narrows and is more pointed. There are around 1,000 American Crocodiles in south Florida, the only place in the US they're located.

I'm not very familiar with them, so, I'd like to see more pics to be sure. Maybe there are other features that ID it as an American Croc?

Yep, see the disclaimer in the top section! For an American Croc, this guy is huge. There are two that live in that Marina. This guy's name is Hercules. Its one of the only areas that you can see American Crocs without a permit. (Other places include Crocodile lake, a magnificent place if you know the right people.)

The whip scorpion is the Tailless whip-scorpion, Phrynus marginemaculatus This species is the only one known in South Florida. They have a neat courting ritual.

Ok, I give up: what are we supposed to see in the pic above the manatee sign pic?

nothing really. It was a very obvious alligator slide that I just took.

hey i think ive seen that croc before... is it the one that has lost all its teeth? i took a canoe trip through there and at the end my buddy fell out of the boat about ten feet away from an awfully big croc right at the dock. i have never seen someone levitate out of the water before, but he sure did when he saw that croc.

Very Kewl Pics Joe! I have been to FL several times over the last few years, but always on the West Coast, never by the glades. But some beautiful areas over there too... :)
