Every sandpaper sharpening question ever

I learned sand paper sharpening from a custom wood worker when I was a boy. I never thought of using it for Knifes until 3-4 years ago. So I got a tempered glass tray from an old refrigerator . Then I went and got a variety package of 3M wet/dry sandpaper. I have 100- 600 and that worked for me.

Been experimenting with a 1/4" thick , medium hard rubber substrate ( called "poundo board" at Tandy leather) that's used for leatherworkers to do stamping on. I cut some 3" by 8" and other assorted strips from it and wrap them with sandpaper.
It flexes nowhere near as much as a mousepad , so I can use a bit more pressure. I find I have a lot more control where my edge is touching ( or relief just behind the edge if needed) than any other medium I've tried.
