Finish the following sentence: Every traditional knife collection needs_____?

My thoughts: trapper, stockman, barlow and maybe a sodbuster

In no particular order: an Opinel, a Case peanut, a Buck 301, a Buck 110, a Case stockman.

Buck 110 comes to mind first. Case Copperlock or Trapper comes next.. And anything by GEC or Northwoods would, of course, fill the bill nicely...

Carbon steel Barlow made by any defunct company.

I gotta disagree about the Buck 110 though. Sure, they are fine knives and I happen to own a couple myself. But for a collector? They are so common, mass-produced, and still in production.

You need some good examples of traditional fixed blades (Military and Hunting); a few that I'd want - Buck 105 & 119, US M-3 or M-4 (both WW-II), a Randall #1, Western Black Beauty. OH

Seems i'm slowly meeting with your approval knarfeng! I would also add wharncliffe and sheepsfoot and a preference for carbon or cv blades.

Old, older and oldest.

cool, cooler, & coolest? :)

A nice Barlow…Covers in wood, stage, bone (jigged & smooth), & ivory (Mammoth, Elephant…); A Cap-lifter, Stockman, Peanut, SAK, each of the 4 major blade-shapes (clip, spear, wharncliffe, sheep foot). A custom... Just a few thoughts...

Easy:
- plenty of GECs for "GEC group shots" and "Lets Talk GEC"
- a peanut for "Cult of the Peanut"
- a barlow for "What makes a good, Traditional barlow?"
- a notable pair for "Notable Pairs"
- at least one modern to pair with for "Traditional and Modern Pairings"
- one with wood for "Wooden Wednesday"
- an old friend for "Old Friends Friday"
- one with stag for "Stag Saturday"
- a few you carry all the time for "What Traditional Knife You Totin' Today?"
- and some old ones for "Old Knives"

Finish the following sentence: Every traditional knife collection needs ____? a theme

I used to think of myself as a collector, until I discovered this forum. I'm just an accumulator who likes all kinds of knives. The collectors whom I've come to appreciate as such tend to have a theme, whether it be one model, company, type, or any other singular defining characteristic to their collection.

First thought would be a place or two to store them. After that you need, in no particular order,
Sowbelly
Peanut
Stockman
Barlow
Congress
Trapper
And a lot of Jack knives!

Well played, my friend. Well played...
